Mobile Tipping...

I’m sure this perennial subject has a huge thread somewhere, but trying to find it from my phone version of this forum isn’t easy... I asked an unrelated question earlier about the DDP and saw someone say they tipped $800 on their last trip... Wow. I usually tip about 15/20% or to the nearest $5 for meals and leave $5 a day for housekeeping. Am I being tight ?

15-20% is normal. Maybe the person had a large party and/or ordered a lot of extras/wine etc. So still tipped normal but just on larger totals.

It depends on the amount of meals or quality of meals they had, eg. an 18% tip (the lowest I tip) at a signature resturtant would be more than say an 18% tip at buffet meal.

I usually leave 18% or 20% at meals. Then $5 a day for mousekeeping.

Nah I think you're good. As said above, huge party/lots of booze to tip on. Assuming it was all food, $800 is 20% of $4000.

I got in an Uber the other day and the driver was a also a Disney chef - he stated that a good waitress can earn 800 - 1000 a shift in tips -)

I take people for face value but did some maths - 10 tables 8 hours $10 per table per hour seems to stack up on the law of averages.

Fair play -)

I live in Orlando and work in a job where tips make up around 75% of my salary.

I work where tipping is regarded as virtually compulsionary, but it's up to the customer to decide how much I get. If I don't get tipped then I pretty much don't get paid.

I appreciate a good tip as much as anyone and a little generosity really makes a big difference.

However, the percentages that people quote on this forum as being 'normal' is close to comical. Bluntly, you guys are significantly over tipping. If you want to splash the cash and over tip knowing then it is 100% appreciated. Just don't get brainwashed into thinking that the recommended tip percentages are remotely close to what the locals or even people within the industry are tipping each other.

It's your money, do as you wish.

Should we tip less than 18%?

What % would you consider acceptable if you were serving?

I would never tip 18%! I’m sorry but they are lucky if they get 10%.

Thank you for being honest!
For years we have said on here that the Brits tip above average ( we have several US friends in FL and other states that have said we tip above the ‘norm’), but every time we’ve been accused of being cheap skates.
We’re really not and always tip fairly depending upon the service we have received but I do object when Disney automatically add a $50 plus gratuity for a self service meal that lasted all of 45 minutes, where getting just one drink was difficult.
