The bill comes out as usual with your itemised meal cost on there, the meal costs are reduced to 0 with any items not covered by DDP left on to pay.
Then the line is there for tip, you can either pay cash or ask to put it on your band.

We generally tip in cash and if paying OOP, we tell the server when asking for the bill that we are tipping in cash. If on DDP, we score through the tip and write "cash", then we round up or down to the nearest dollar in whatever percentage we have decide to pay.

This avoids getting tips charged to your room if you would rather not.

Whilst I personally think that 20% is too high, 10% it was 10% in 1992!

i remember going to epcot quite a few years ago and ate in the English pub restaurant. (Is it the rose and crown?)The service I had from the English girl was shocking she was more concerned with the larger table next to us. I had to call another waitress over to get service it was that bad. When the bill came though it was circled the amount suggested to pay as there was four of us even on the dining plan it was a big tip and stupidly I left the suggested amount even though our service was non existent. My son was ill at the time so just wanted to leave as usually I would of said something. I have learnt from then though I wont automatically leave the suggested tip if the service is bad. I left less tip last year in Vegas but the waitress only came to see if we were ok after we had finished our meal and ready to pay. She didn't half moan under her breath so we could hear

That shouldn’t really make any difference though as in 1992 the meal would have cost less ie $50 when with inflation the same meal now costs $100 so the 10% still makes the tip double from $5 to $10.

I tip, even when in the uk. It's just what i have always known but there are certain things about it that really annoy me especially as a business owner. How american companies can get away with paying pennies and expect the customer to pay their staffs wages is beyond me. Can you imagine selling a customer a product at a profit then expect them to pay your staffs wages in the uk? I'd love it if i could do it haha.

I do realise though that generally speaking people in these jobs earn less and deserve to be paid, i could choose not to eat in these places but i do and i couldn't not tip as i would feel bad. I worked in a casino may years ago and in the uk then (i'm not sure now as i don't gamble) it was illegal for gaming staff to accept tips in any way. the servers in the casino used to earn 3/4 times what licensed gaming staff did and worked far shorter shifts.

But it depends who you are listening to.

It is not at odds with anyone I know who actually lives in Florida. I know quite a few people very well as we owned a villa there for a decade. One of them has a daughter who has worked in numerous restaurants and doesn't get anywhere near 15% in general from locals None of those people would ever tip 15% or more. Never. They laugh at me when we are out at dinner.
I still pay 15-20%, but am interested to see how the response on the local person comes back.

I have to say I agree that the suggested percentage is too high. It makes tourists think it’s the norm but it’s not. 18-20% to me is what I give for great service. Average service gets 15% and below average gets 10% or less. Realistically I’ve never tipped less than 15% and most of the time I end up between 15 and 20. And I don’t mind giving 20 if my server is really good. But to make people think it’s the norm and they HAVE to pay it I find really annoying. I’m not cheap but nowhere else in the US I’ve seen suggested tips that high.
