Carpet renewal.

Just out of curiosity , I know price, quality , wear and tear are all different to us but how often would you say you renew your living room carpet , hall and stair carpet etc.

We have a 80% wool, 50g weight in living room that’s been down now 6 years ,
Stair carpet had been down 7 years.

Living room carpet was replaced in 1998 with 80% wool (a heathery green - shows no dirt!).

Hall/stairs/landing carpets were here when I moved in in 1993 (so goodness knows) and are still lovely - I think they are all wool (certainly look expensive, thick and luxurious dark cream), the front edge on the bottom step has started to show some wear, so we will be replacing it in the next year.

We use a vax carpet cleaner once a year (or so).

We’ve moved at least every 10 years so I’ve never replaced one other than when we have first moved into a house.

Thanks guys, hubby wants to renew living room one,
We have a lot of wear where we walk through to kitchen and also where our feet are when we sit on settee and get up etc,
It’s noticeable but not that bad (to me)

We moved in here in 2005 and they were brand new , we renewed living room in 2013 just.

We inherited a Brintons carpet in the hall, landing and stairs from the previous owners, we've been here nearly 22 years and it is still going strong, our living room carpet was replaced when our dog was one and had stopped piddling and chewing, she's 10 now, it is still good but getting an aroma of dog so is due a shampoo.

as others say it will depend on the room, quality etc.
I moved in 2 years ago and the carpets were fine apart from one so pulled that up and planned to decorate it quickly. 2 years later it isnt done (too many choices for windows)

My cats have used the one in the lounge as a scratching post, grr, even though i have loads of posts for them. To be fair it is only a couple of them that have done this. Though i do have a cat that is sick regularly so the carpets are cleaned (well patches) very regularly.

I am lucky that i move my furniture in lounge regularly - summer set up and winter set up so footfall routes do change.

Ive ordered a carpet for the bedroom and went for a soft and luxury one (hopefully) and it should last for at least 10 years.

I also think it depends on the quality and wear really. We seem to change them between 7 -8 years, I can't say because of being worn. It's usually a case of changing furnishings and colour schemes.

What I dislike about carpets is the way they get a “pathway” through them. Drives me mad.
