Heathrow to introduce ULEZ charge

businesstraveller/bu...fc8e-162891081

Extra charges coming it seems, watch the rest follow suit

Not surprised, Heathrow has been ratcheting up the parking charges for years as well as aggressively targeting drivers who pick people up from outside the terminals.
This has nothing to do with reducing emission's & everything to do with virtue signalling, endearing themselves to the Mayor of London & ultimately increasing their revenues.
Transport links for Heathrow are fantastic if you are travelling to or from central London unless the trains aren't running, but utterly appalling from anywhere else, we live in Ascot which is a short 20 minute drive from the airport, if we were to try & use public transport it would take 2 - 3 hours to get there & way longer if we were to come in on a late flight.
I have no doubt that these charges will be introduced & the Green lobby will be ecstatic as motorists are punished yet again, as will the airport who will see a short term jump in revenues, personally we will be able to absorb any rise, but ultimately I can't see people being willing to add on £10 - £15 to the cost of getting to & from the airport & they'll fly from somewhere else.

Or, it might encourage more people to use off-site parking.

Under the plan, if yopu are parking onsite for 3 weeks would you need to pay 21 x the ULEZ charge?

Seems a bit hypocritical, charging "dirty" cars to enter but activly encouraging more planes.

Good news is this will only effect older polluting cars. I changed to a car that emits 56nox and 161 co2 that does 25 to the gallon which is environmentally friendly. I had a car that did emit 24nox and 102 co2 and did 50mpg but that was classed as a polluting car.

London's Ulez will have no effect on me as I changed my car to help the environment

Phew! When I first read the thread I thought I would have to start driving the long way round to get to our favourite The Pheasant Inn in Harlington as currently we cut through the airport but reading the article it only applies if entering drop off zones or car parks . Feel for those passengers it will affect though
I do think this is only the start and that the ULEZ will eventually stretch to the whole of Greater London which will affect where I live. By 2021 we should hopefully have a more economical car so shouldn't get caught out

This is okay if you can afford a new car. We live in the south west of the country and DH travels 200 miles to work then gets on a plane. We need a car with comfort and good fuel economy as our car does a lot of mileage so we have a 12 yr old diesel, we cannot afford to just change the car for a newer model and we don’t want car loan debt. There are far more pollutant older cars being driven around now than a few years ago as people cannot afford the hybrid or fully electric vehicles. There is no infrastructure where live for charging electric vehicles either.

Totally irrelevant but I haven’t been to the Pheasant in YEARS! In fact I think I was days away from having my eldest who is 13 😂 Need to go!
