How to dispose of dry ice?

Hi, I’ve just taken delivery of my cheesecake for Christmas. It has been packed in dry ice. I’ve read that you can’t dispose of it like normal ice. I haven’t opened the package yet, as I need to make room in the freezer. Has anyone disposed of dry ice before? Thanks

Just leave in box and it will disappear.
If you want to have some fun though, put some in the sink and run the water!
We used to use it at work and this brightened up our day! I'm sure someone will come along to tell me we shouldn't have done it but it's good fun!

Thank you DS 11 would have a field day with what you’ve described : Am I likely to be safe for an hour with it packaged whilst I sort the freezer out would you think? Thanks

Just leave it in the box outside, it is solid carbon dioxide and will just sublime, Do not handle it with bare hands for an extended time though as you may get frostbite. As Floridasgirl says you can have some fun with it and it is quite safe as long as you watch out.

Could you run it under a tap and record it? I'd really like to see what happens.

Yes you can, it just looks like one of those clouds you see in a horror movie, great fun playing with it, even looks good in a cup of water .

My Christmas meat always comes in it from Scotland and I’ve always been really scared to go near it because of the warnings on the box. I may be brave next week and run it under the tap
