Feeling of dread before going to Disney?
Anyone else get this sinking feeling or is it just me.
I feel like because this is going to be such an expensive holiday it’s gonna be almost one year of my salary that I am worrying too much about it all going pear shape. I don’t feel like this when I go on cheap holidays. For example I went to skeggy at weekend and I took kids on rides. Was £18 for three rides for my eldest. Youngest got two of the same ride for £4. Youngest was upset that she couldn’t go on big things which is understandable and she calmed down when I explained. Eldest annoyed me most as she had a tantrum after her three big rides that she wasn’t going on anymore. She got one more than her sister and she still wanted more even though we had said she would only have three. I know she is young at four but I feel that I am trying to make sure the kids get all the little luxuries that we didn’t get and I don’t wanna feel like this at Disney when it cost a million times more. |

A year’s salary on one holiday?! 😳 I think I’d be feeling sick tbh.

Yes I did feel like this when we took ours but let me reassure you at 3.5 and 16mo they had an absolutely wonderful time and no major meltdowns. Any that were had were cured with a bubble wand/YouTube/food/nap.
Remember they’re young and still keep on top of snacks and naps and I think they’ll generally be too amazed and overwhelmed with Disney magic to have many paddies. It does cost a lot for a family nowadays yes but try to relax as I’ll bet you’ll be booking your next one when you return! Enjoy your trip!

A years salary !
See this a lot on here people have expectations that the 'big' holiday will be perfect & try to plan/cram everything in & expect it all to run smoothly... something will go wrong just take it as it comes & enjoy.. |

I think it's the idea of it all going pear shaped whilst you're there due to the amount spent on the holiday to begin with, that's where the worry is imo.
Just enjoy it, take it all in, if someone goes slightly wrong as above... take it as it comes, but just enjoy it all. Nothing will EVER be perfect.

If you expect it to be perfect, then you are likely to find problems. I’m sure your children will love it and have a great time but they may get hot and tired which could cause a tantrum, it’s normal. It may be the most wonderful place in the world for children but sometimes it’s all too much for them. It’s crowded, there are long queues, a lot of walking, heat, time differences, tiredness and strange routines. This can always upset children and I have seen lots of crying miserable children in Disney.
But, if you realise this is natural and don’t think of it as the child not appreciating the holiday, and deal with it as you would at home by helping them with the problem by cooling them down or taking time out etc then the issue is quickly resolved. You will have a lovely time if you relax and don’t stress about the cost and thinking it’s got the be perfect because of the cost involved. One advantage of Disney is now you have paid for the holiday all the rides are included, and the food and snacks if you have free dining plan, so your example of a child stropping because you can’t afford more rides won’t be an issue as there are loads of rides already paid for 😀 . Just take a deep breath, relax and enjoy it. I’m sure you will all have a lovely holiday 😀 |

I simply wouldn’t go on a holiday that cost one year of salary.

On all your Disney posts you sound totally fed up, as if you really don't want to go. And now with all this stress and worry about the cost (a year's salary!) I think you will be looking for things to go wrong. But don't - just relax and enjoy yourself. Things went wrong on my trip last year - I was on my own and I had to deal with it all myself but I got through it.

It depends on how much your salary is though. I worked part time for many years but only 10 hours a week to fit in with DH's job and kids so my salary was "holiday money". I've not worked for a few years due to ill health so less holidays and am hoping to get a part time job soon but it will be ear-marked for a trip to New York.

It depends on op’s circumstances though. If her partner covers all the household costs, maybe her wages are solely for holidays and therefore, it’s reasonably affordable. Either way they made the decision to spend the amount they did, and if they are comfortable with spending it then that’s their choice.
It’s still proportionally a lot of money to spend on one holiday though, so if the op gets fixated on the cost and thinking it has to be perfect because of the cost, then it’s putting too much pressure on her and she could be disappointed. Edited at 02:09 PM. |
