Chinny Reckons ?

Absolute Radio currently doing a feature where even someone says something that the other person doesn’t believe , the second person shows he thinks it’s a lie by stroking an imaginary beard and saying ‘ chinny reckons’

Now we used to do the beard stroking bit , but would just say ‘ hmmm ‘

What do you / did you used to do / say ?

Never heard of chinny reckons

I grew up in birmingham 80s and 90s and we definitely used to say ‘chinny reckon’ and stroke an imaginary beard to indicate someone was lying.

Yeah I used to do it in the 90s in Norfolk, and there was another version related to Jimmy Hill but I can't remember it

Oh yes, we used to stroke an imaginary beard with thumb and index finger and say “ Jimmy Hill” or “ Jimmy Jimmy” 😂 (1980s)

In a voice with great disinterest and a sigh: "Did ye? aye"

Or more rude and to the point: "Yer bum's oot the windae!"

I remember chinny reckon, also another take on it was to pull this imaginary beard and pretend to let it go, whilst saying ‘wurrr-ding’ 🤣🤣🤣 probably just normal for Norfolk tho 😂

I'm sure this phrase used to be used on The Mary Whitehouse Experience comedy show as well.
