Hamster treats

We are looking after nephews hamster for a while- are they able to eat blueberries? Or what other little treats can we give him?

Blueberries are fine but not too many due to sugar content. We used to give the occasional bit of cheese to my daughters hamster. We used to Google anything before trying anything new.

My daughter has a Syrian hamster. Here are a few suggestions but it’s a good idea to check online too: all small amounts, broccoli, carrot, cucumber, porridge, boiled egg, plain pasta, plain yoghurt, apple, strawberries, pear.

Thanks for the ideas, our dog will ‘donate’ one of his fav blueberries ( he loves them frozen as a snack!) and we will try some cucumber, and pasta. Will take DD to pet shop too to look for a toy!

Ours likes a little bit of peanut butter on a chew block or a little bit of parsley. I’ve read you can’t give citrus fruit, lettuce, potato or celery so we avoid those. You can buy hamster chocolate buttons in the pet shop but don’t give too many, they are an occasional treat.

Hamsters actually need a high protein diet, so egg, plain meat and meal worms are great. Most fruit and veg are fine in small portions, the size of a hamster ear!

Mine is partial to a bit of cheese haha

Mine loved sunflower seeds as a sensible snack, jammy dodgers, scones and crisps for non sensible snacks

Our hamster loved the little chocolate drops you can get from pets at home.
