Daft question - travel insurance

This is probably a daft question, and I think I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but thought I'd get clarification on here!

We're going next year, with our 2 kids (now both over 18) and daughters boyfriend.

Previously, we would have been covered by our travel insurance with our bank but now, as they're over 18 and with the extra body, we need to sort separate insurance.

I know the answer is yes, but I'm guessing it's ok for myself and my wife to travel on our banks insurance, and I only need to sort a separate insurance policy for the other three?

Daft question I know but my brain is a bit scrambled this morning!

I think the advice is to get one policy to cover you all. I believe technically you can have separate but it's simpler to make a claim if you are all on one policy.

What is you or partner couldn't go. Would the kids go without you? The friend needs to be linked to you insurance IMO but I'm sure someone will be along to explain better the risks.

i would contact your bank and add them onto that policy. probably be relatively cheap and will be far easier if a claim would be required

Yes - it makes sense to have us all on one policy.

Taken pinseekers advice and mailed the insurance company the bank use to see if there's anything we can do to add them to the policy.

I disagree.

The op and his wife have insurance that they have already paid for so they only need to get a policy for the three teenagers why pay for themselves as well ?

In addition to that regardless of what they may purchase they will still be covered in their own policy. Being covered for the same risk by multiple insurance companies causes problems and may mean rather than being covered twice you are not covered at all.

We are in the same boat. We have an annual policy for me and hubby but both girls and boyfriend are over 18. If one of us can’t go, they wouldn’t want to go without us.
Surely a separate policy for them wouldn’t cover them for cancellation if me or hubby couldn’t go? 🤷

That's what we're thinking. Makes sense to have us all on the one policy - managed to get a decent deal, and weirdly it was cheaper for us to buy a multi trip annual policy rather than a single trip one.
