Last minute holiday plan

So, after shelving our plans to to California this summer, it looks like we are actually going.
Any comments would be great please, we are throwing this plan together over the weekend!
Travelling out on 21st July and returning on 8th August. We need to be in/near LA for a concert at Dodger stadium on 27th July.
We will probably hire a car.
On the one hand, we want to do some things to keep the teens busy (14 and 17) both quite nerdy, into alternative music, on the other, we’re happy to while many days away by the pool/beach as we will return another year and do the PCH.
I am a huge music fan, and have been reading the fab trip reports from another Dibber and all the music-related places they visited (love Weezer!).
Accommodation is something we know may be an issue this late, we want to book one room, with 3 beds.
We were looking at Manhattan Beach as a base, but open to any suggestions.
Hit me with any suggestions! I know lots of you will say to avoid LA, but we do need to stay around there on the 27th.
Many thanks!

My Chemical Romance. We bought the tickets, fully intending to go, the Trump happened and the teens didn’t want to go, then FOMO hit, and the teens have come round to the idea. Thankfully we haven’t sold the tickets!

Haha awesome.
Ever seen that video of how to call an entire generation with one note?
Even my two at 10&9 know them. Prehaps shows my era.

My youngest wanted to go see avril lavigne but we couldn’t swing that this year in June unfortunately due to time off work. I was gutted not to take them but luckily I never told her about our plans.

Was a bit sad we missed simple plan by a few days in Epcot the other year too but I saw them when I was a teen at Cyprus gardens in Florida.

Proper jealous now.
Have an amazing time

The Seaview inn Manhattan beach is a tripadvisor favourite often recommended as being good value and near the beach, as most other hotels there tend to be along the highway a mile inland. It will take a long time to drive to Hollywood or Universal so you may want to do a split stay. We stayed in Burbank which I really liked and it was near Warner Bros studios.
We also used Emily at https://www.yourlatours.com/ for private tour for the day and she was great at incorporating all the places that we were interested in such as locations of tv shows that we watched, cemeteries where famous people are buried and Randys donuts, for example.

I'm going against the grain as I loved LA when we visited!
We stayed at the tangerine. Visited WB studios, Santa monica beach, rodeo drive, Beverly hills, sunset boulevard, universal studios. Also went to Griffith Observatory which I would highly recommend, the views over LA are stunning!
Also saw Nightmare on Elm street house and Buffy's house from BTVS. I wish we'd had longer there to be honest and I would love to go back!

Hi there’s lots of options. You could do vegas first and then LA area followed by the coast , Monterey and San Fran or Yosemite.
San Diego is an option before LA area as well , 2 hours dr, or Palm springs .

Thank you all, these are really helpful suggestions.

Our plan is rather chaotic at the moment:
-Fly into LAX and pick up car
-Stay somewhere at a LA beach for a few quiet days
-Stay somewhere near Burbank/Hollywood for a few days for Universal/Warner bros/Rodeo drive and the concert at Dodger stadium
-Drive to a national park- probably stay there one night
-Drive to San Diego
-Go to San Diego Zoo
-Beach/pool/La Jolla
-Drive back to LA
-Fly home

Thank you- we will book the tour with Emily, that sounds spot on!

In the middle of that my husband has said that he wants to go to Monster Jam. I've managed to dissuade the kids from Comic Con in SD, purely because it's sold out and the tickets are thousands each now on Viagogo.

I have looked at the Tangerine Hotel and the Sea view Inn, they are lovely, thank you. I am struggling to find accommodation that has 3 beds- a double and 2 twin beds, or 2 doubles and a rollaway bed for an adult-sized teen. If anyone has any suggestions on that, anywhere in LA or nearby, I would really appreciate it. We have left it too late to book some of the larger, family-sized hotel rooms.

Thanks again! You really are wonderful!

Hi again, please can you advise…? We have decided to have 2 bases, one for the 1st 10 nights at a Los Angeles beach, and one in San Diego for 9 nights. We figure that we’ll do the sightseeing from the LA beach base. I’m leaning toward to the Sea view inn at manhattan beach, but are there any condo style apartments at any beaches that Dibbers would also recommend please? We will need 3 beds, a pool and access to a washing machine. I don’t want to overlook other locations because I’m rushing to book.
Similarly, any San Diego hotel/apartment recommendations too?
Thank you!
