We're off on a budget trip next month, best advice is to sign up for the usual suspects mail lists, Denny's, Ihop etc. just before you go for the discounts and offers. Big pack of bottled water from the store and then refill your bottles when you are at the parks, likewise water at restaurants saves on the cost of sodas. I actually really enjoy 'budgeting' and getting the most for my money so don't feel like we are depriving ourselves at all when doing a budget trip like this, it's all good fun 👍🏻

Flights are obviously cheaper generally if go indirect. I had a real play with flights on BA and we found having a real random route can save you loads and do it as a fly drive. We fly LGW-TPA then come back MCO-PHL-LHR and saved over £750 for 2 of us compared with directs to and from TPA and even more for MCO direct.

Cheers guys all the advice is much appreciated. I am actually starting to look forward to it now. The idea of a challenge is really starting to excite me. Usually we don't worry about the day to day stuff. But we have been very lucky to have been many times before so i cant really feel like were missing out.

Again thanks for all of the ideas.

I agree with what a lot of others have said but would add for us when we are doing a budget trip:
- we dont hire a car we use the lynx system to get around and the occasional uber this saves car hire, petrol, parking charges and when you can get a weeks ticket for under $20 is a no brainer for us. We also get the bus from the airport to our hotel when we stay on i drive its a direct bus and costs like $2 per person versus $40+ cab or $30ish for mears per person. Going back we get an uber which costs around $35-40 normally although we have also done the bus too - takes around 40mins - 1 hour depending really on traffic and stops

When we stay on i drive we generally have a hotel with a fridge - sometimes one with a microwave too. If breakfast isnt included we bring our own cereal from home - usually pick up amultipack of kellogs or similar with the mini boxes. This means you have a variety, they stay fresh as your only using one at a time - these are often on offer for £1 in the uk so for 16 packs your paying £2 per person - which is normally cheaper than you would pay for them same in walmart. We would also take crisps and snack size treats from home with us to take out to the parks and some squashed or similar (home bargains do a couple of different ones for about 80p each) which we can add to cups of iced water. We get the bus to Walmart and grab the big gallon bottles of milk and juice and some yoghurts, fruit, bread, cheese/ham, noodles so we then can have a quick cheap meal in our room

We pretty much then dont need any other snacks or things in the parks.

If we eat in the parks then we will get kids meals from counter service or we will buy one meal and a side to share from there.

Meals out - we grab the coupons books and do the usual email sign ups. We do cici's, golden coral, perkins, friendlys etc and we will also occasionally order 1 large pizza from cici's to take back to our room to share which is enough for us.

Things to do:
I play roller derby so I try and see if there is anything going on with Orlando's team and go see if them play if they have a game on tickets are cheap like $10 - they have lots of other local team sports in the area where you can go watch for free or a nominal fee - we have also watched baseball, basket ball, high school football etc

classic cars down old town are cool, as is old town in general

we sometimes skip disney and just get flex tickets which i 14 days unlimited entry to universal, seaworld and BG

Going to watch a movie is always good u can get some good deals for food and a movie at citywalk or just get outside of disney / universal and go to a local complex which is a lot cheaper

Shopping: thrift store on 192 (just down from the giant orange/opposite the big pet store) I always go here to pick up some cheap disney pins for trading and just a general browse

In this area there is also the converse outlet store (same section as beltz outlet) which is the cheapest place to get discounted cons - u can pick up a pair of cons for $8, laces for 25c, clothing for $5 - its significantly cheaper than the one in the outlets

the point orlando has the tommy hilfiger store which has massive discounts -its where they take overstock from the tommy hilfiger stores in the mall and outlets and then knock it down further dresses reduced from $300 to $6!

Disney stuff - character warehouse in outlets
