I feel October is far away enough that its hopefully a good bet. We are already looking at rolling out vaccines from December/January, October is a further 10 months down the line and I'd like to think we are in a pretty good position by then. I personally wouldn't book anything long haul sooner than August/September, but I think September onwards is a pretty good chance of normality by then.

Flying from Gatwick, landing at Heathrow - slight faff but will bribe the FIL to pick us up! Took the plunge as figured it wouldn't get any cheaper, and if worse case senario happens again, we'll just move it!

I bought my tickets for Aug 18 London - SFO and Sept 02 Las Vegas- London on day of release of the return leg and with the upgrade to include hold baggage etc. I paid £523 .
I watched these flights climb to £645pp in the period afterwards.. and now I understand that you can get 20% off, returning the price to what I paid in the first place.

This is exactly what I done yesterday, basic price £255 each! I figured if I had to cancel and the insurance wouldn’t pay, then the most I would lose was the flight prices, but I’d get the tax back on them. Once things are a bit more certain I will pay to book seats, we may even ditch the luggage altogether as ba have a 23kg allowance on hand luggage. I’ve booked hotels separately with free cancellation. I could have held out, but I have a feeling that once everyone can travel, they will, and prices will shoot up.
