BA Cancel Flight, Claim Voucher, Rebook Same Flight As Cheaper

Hi,

Booked 2 x BA flights a week ago for next summer which are now each Ł200 cheaper. In theory, as far as I can make out, I could cancel them, claim my voucher, apply voucher to exact same flights then be issued with an additional voucher as “Ł200 change” left over to use on a future booking. Either it sounds nuts or I’m nuts, any thoughts or anyone else in the same boat (or plane) that’s already tried it?

Attempted to ask BA but the “chat bot” couldn’t quite get its head around it!

In theory, that sounds fine. But there is a risk involved.

By the time you cancel, get issued with a voucher, the flights may have gone up.

Ł200 is a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things, you were happy with the price when you booked them so i'd just forget it and enjoy the planning

If you ring up I think prices tend to be more.

As above, the issue of your voucher isn’t instant: mine took 2-3 days; the flight price could increase in that time.

Can you not add an extra day on either side if that works out cheaper? Or change dates slightly if cheaper? Don’t know about flight only but I booked flights/hotel for next July to Barbados a couple of weeks ago and it’s now nearly 100 quid cheaper. Looked how much it was to add an extra night and it was Ł14 cheaper so I phoned up and they changed it no problem as this book with confidence you don’t pay an amendment fee.

This was us last weekend I looked and our flights were a lot cheaper than when we booked and that was adding on connecting flights as well ! I phoned them to see if I could change and as there is no fees to change I could. They had a problem getting the car hire discount so they booked the new flydrive for me and transferred my deposit over I ended up getting flights from Inverness and a larger car for cheaper than the original flight from Gatwick.

Wee update, phoned BA this morning and asked if, due to no amendment fees, I could simply amend my booking to a random date then go in and amend that new booking back to my original dates, answer "yep, no problem, you can amend your booking as much as you like and we will send you a voucher for the difference". Just before I go and do this I'm looking to see if anyone else has done this without a hitch?
