While you are on furlough your boss is not meant to ask questions like this, it is none of their business.

Under the letter of the furlough scheme asking and answering that question counts as work so you've both broken the furlough rules

I think you are right - it’s the holiday planning forums etc that make the ears faster (or certainly used to be the way back when we actually could plan and then actually have holidays !)
