Clothes
We are travelling with Royal Caribbean in the Summer going round Europe. We are first time cruisers and I'm getting in a wee bit of a tiz
What clothes should we be looking at packing? Normally on holiday during the day I would wear shorts, vest tops (sometimes strapless) and sandals. I have two teen girls who wear similar during the day. Hubby tends to be tee shirts and knee length shorts. Is that OK to pack for daytime for the cruise? Nigh time I would normally wear a sun dress or long shorts/cropped trousers and a nice strappy top. Would that be OK for casual nights? Any advice for what teens can wear for casual and formal nights? What should DH be wearing for casual and formal nights? On holiday he would normally wear similar to what he wears in the day. Starting to panic and there are two months to go yet. It's the fear of the unknown that makes it worse. Sorry if I've rambled or come across silly - but it's just new to me. Jules x

Having only sailed on DCL, I can only tell you that during that day for ports I'd wear shorts and tshirts. For DCL, they ask that no shorts are worn in the main dining rooms for evening meals, but it may be different on RC.
Capri pants and a nice top sounds perfect though.

Thanks Bats.
Just found this on RC's website. There are three distinct types of evening on board: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are: Casual: Polo shirts and trousers for men, sundresses or trousers for women Smart Casual: Jacket and shirt for men, dresses or trouser suits for women Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women Will need to see if I can get my teen DD's some dresses as they live in shorts and t-shirts on holiday.

I would make sure you pack light cardis or pashminas too, as a lot of sites like churches, Vatican etc wont let you enter with bare shoulders or too much leg on show

we did a 4 night RC taster cruise over to ireland from southampton with two teenagers back in 2010 and my kids wore some nice outfits that didn't break the bank
i picked up some chinos type trousers for my son from next and then some nice shirts from next and george at asda and for my daughter i easily found her some pretty cotton dresses suitable for the main dining room from the likes of peacocks, new look, yummi and matalan we didn't really have a formal night so it was much easier for us if i were you i would buy 3 or 4 dresses, get you dd to change after dinner and hang the dress in a steamy enviroment or on the door to the balcony to freshen it up, with dinner only lasting a few hours it should be ok for a 2nd wear but saying that you never know with a teenager they might want a new outfit for every night both my son and daughter are vey happy to change after dinner and get back into those jeans and tee shirts so i'm very lucky it allows me to pack light |

I have no idea how to get my 3 ds's 15, 13, 11 into chinos, shirt or even smarter! For DCL. This is a bit daunting. I know how you feel OP!

They can wear jeans into the dining rooms, just not shorts. I wear jeans or 3/4 lengths (capri pants).
Mick wears jeans and a polo shirt. For formal night, you don't have to dress up if you don't want to.
