Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountains

Hi

As part of a road trip we are taking in May we will have 3 nights in Gatlinburg to explore the area and the Smoky Mountains. Are there any hikes that are a must do? Any other things that people would recommend to see or do in the area? Thanks in advance.

Clingmans's Dome is the highest point. It's a drive to the top then a .5 mile fairly steep walk to the viewing platform where there are views fir miles. On the way to Clingmans the Sugarlands visitor centre is worth a visit.

Cades Cove is an 11 mile motor trail around a valley with lots of old cabins, churches and other buildings. Beautiful place that you can stop and look around the buildings.

Roaring Fork Motor Trail starts in Gatlinburg itself. It weaves around wooded mountain road and again has cabins and trails leading to waterfalls.

We loved the Smoky Mountains 😃

laurel falls trail

Newfound gap drive (lovely views)

The craft loop (didn't get a chance to do it, but it's supposed to be good)

Other things...

Dollywood and also the water park are great

CLIMBworks zip lining - amazing (book in advance)

Lots of mini golf around

There are a few 'alpine coasters'

Factory shops in sevierville

There is so much to do in the area - you'll have a great time

Again, what Dee said. You will find the best wildlife early in the mornings on the Roring Fork drive and Cades Cove journey. You will love it xx
