St Petersburgh Pier
Has anyone been to St Pete's pier. I understand that they have tricycles to get you around, and I am thinking about doing it this time, hurricanes permitting. I believe that they also have dolphin encounter boat rides as well. Anyone know.

There are no trycicles, but it is a nice place to visit. There are several restaurants, including the Columbia Spanish Restaurant and a food court. There is a night club and restaurant with live music on the top floor (Cha Cha Coconuts) which gives one a good view of St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay. There are a number of shops on the first floor and a small aquarium on the second floor. There are several museums on the pier approach and surrounding parks. The pier (in its various forms) has been a St. Pete. institution since the early 1900's.
For a history and more details of The Pier, see a web site I designed for a class project. (some of the restaurants and things have changed since). hersheysplace/pier_proj/pierhistory.htm |

Another vote here for St. Pete`s Pier. We always go to St. Pete`s beach for the day and afterwards go to the pier. My hubby and our eldest son love fishing and they caught a massive ray when we were out there in May. Everyone was around them clapping and cheering as it was enormous. They had a photo taken with it and then put it back. They hired the rods for half an hour and bought some shrimps as bait. I love the pelicans, they are so cute the way they waddle round. It is a great place, well worth a visit.

It's a great place for a few hours.
Last time we went there were some amphibious "Duck tours" around the streets giving a commentary on all the local history, then you went into the sea and had a tour around there. It was a great couple of hours, recommend it if they're still going - Hops, is it still there? You've also got to watch the pelican feeding, they are hilarious

Was there in July this year and found it a little dissapointing to be honest. The bottom floor is all weird little shops with curios and lots of shell type shops, local Floridian goods and movie memorabilia (sp?). The other floors are interesting, to say the least. There is an aquarium with a gift shop, an art gallery which was distrubing and then the bar on the top floor. It is worth going to for a few hours cos it is in a very nice location, and downtown St. Petes is lovely. Was raining when we were there so was a welcome relief from the rain.
