We might have to come straight home due to dh's annual leave restrictions but ideally I'd like to fly on somewhere after!

we will have to juggle with the kids college and dh's work it will all be up in the air until we know what's happening with college and the choices and plans made when my son leaves his special education placement (we will know more this time next year)
we have taken the plunge and booked the cruise but we are not 100% guaranteed that it will all pan out yet i'm keeping everything crossed it will and if it does and we have the time then the kids want to go to new york afterwards before flying home

It would be wrong not to go somewhere in the US while we're that close
so we'll be visiting Chicago for a few nights after.

Thanks for the replies
 lots of variation with some unexpected answers of alternative places to visit.  I think everyone agrees that it's great to add on some times in the states post cruise but if it's not practical then the trip is still worthwhile. So for the time being I won't be able to have my cake and eat it but then I'll have enough cake on a fortnight's cruise anyway!   Have a fab time guys  Sept isn't an option for us but we can travel in October so it will be NCL Epic 2013 or RCI Oasis of the Seas 2014 for us.
