Studio Tours
Hi all,
The DW and I have just booked California for next August. As well as visiting Disneyland, we wanted to do a studios tour. We are big movie fans and are prepared to pay the premium to get the best possible experience. From what we have seen so far, there are 2 experiences which have caught our eye: 1. Warner Bros DELUXE tour $295 each. 2. Universal VIP Studios Tour $349 each. Both of these offer more exclusive tours of the sound stages. The Universal package in particular offers a tour guide that gets you access to front of line in the theme park as well as access to sets not open to the general public. This is obviously what I have read on the websites but is there anyone who have been on one or both of the above experiences who can offer their opinion? Thanks in advance, Tim

Hi Tim,
I can't comment on the 2 tours you mention, but we did the Paramount VIP tour (4 1/2 hrs) and found it excellent. Very small groups, lots to see and no crowds! |

If I had the choice, it would be the Warner Bros tour as it is a working studio, more chance of bumping into someone and seeing what is currently being filmed

We did the normal tour at Warner Bros and thought it was great so I'd definitely plump for that. Loved our experience there.

We did the standard Warner tour and the group was not big. You got to see lots of the studio inlcluding some working stages. Not sure what extract you get for the extra $230 of the VIP one.

We've done Universal and Paramount (both just the standard tours).
Of the two, the Paramount one is definitely more oriented towards serious movie lovers with more in depth info and access to parts of the working studio. Plus you get a guide to ask questions of and they get to tailor things to movies/actors you like. The universal one was good but more in keeping with the fact you're in an amusement park. I suspect the VIP tour will give you a lot more info and be more tailored to interests. I've heard the Sony tour (was MGM) is also quite good but that's a full walking tour. |
