Mobile Shoulder Pain at Night

Oh my word, the pain is shocking and sometimes lasts All night! (Like last night ☹️)

Does anyone suffer with shoulder pain and/or elbow pain which is significantly more painful at night? What do you take for it?

A telephone appointment with my Rheumatologist suggests that my psoriatic arthritis is worsening and recent scans showed inflammation and shoulder impingement but I haven’t been able to start on methotrexate yet due to Covid. He is now arranging scans and says we can now start treatment - I was so hesitant to start taking methotrexate but now I’m thinking bring it on! I’ll take anything to stop this pain!

I had trapped sciatica last year and the pain st night was horrendous. My physio said it is because the nerve receptors are firing with no stimulation. The only way I could try and ease it was with hot water bottles. I feel for you, it’s so horrid.

It does feel like my nerve endings are on fire!

I've taken some ibuprofen and will take paracetamol in between today. I hate these flares!

I have hypermobility syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I've had shoulder impingement, frozen shoulder and bone spurs in both of my shoulders... there's no pain like it; in the end I was just about begging for the op to fix it (ended up with 2 ops on each shoulder).

If you are already taking ibuprofen, I'd recommend asking for Brufen ≈≈≈≈≈≈ instead; it's slow release ibuprofen, so better for pain management at night.

Good luck OP.

I’m on methotrexate for Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis - takes a while to work but it’s been great for my Psoriasis - make sure you get folic acid prescribed - helps with the nausea - hope you get relief soon - nothing worse with pain esp at night.

I had a rotator cuff injury that was much worse at night. The only way I could get to sleep was with co-codamol but that is such a short term fix as it can be addictive.

Good luck with finding something that works for you.

Col&Ali, you could be me! However I was able to start Methotrexate before lockdown, and as Mezza says, it’s been great. Still get occasional brief flares, but the pain is more bearable and, as a bonus, my skin psoriasis is a whole lot better.

I have that , after slipping on the floor and leaving my arm on the sideboard !
always more pain full at night , but 7 months in getting easier
I am quite pleased to see others have the same thing as was worried it could be an indicator for something worse

My husband was prescribed methotrexate some years ago , how ever he ended up seriously ill in hospital with an infection that was close to becoming Septicaemia , it lowers your immunity
However he was prescribed it for a very mild condition , so not worth the risk
Just be aware of any changes to your body

That sounds awful. I was diagnosed in March with psoriatic arthritis and at the time my symptoms were manageable so I have been hesitant to start on the course of methotrexate. Now, however, after quite a lot of swelling and pain increase in various joints I have to face facts and give it a go.

Thank you for your advice though - I will be watching for signs of change.
