We have a warm house (4500sq ft+) with underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs. We never turn the radiators upstairs on the house is so well insulated the heat rises and stays.

Once the underfloor heating is on it stays on all winter, each room has thermostat that controls each zone. Gas for heating and hot water only £80 per month

I have always lived in old houses until this one, will never swap back.

thermostatic valves /TVR allow you to set the temperature on each rad, This means you can decide how warm you want each room. You would need to adjust them if you want the room different temps at different times of the day. OR invest in a smart system will digital TVRs etc.
As for the thermostat in the hall. if your hall gets to the set temp all the rads will go off even if you local room temp is not as you want it, this is because the thermostat control the boiler going on /off , the TVR's control the flow to the individual rads.

Mr Morrow what about heating when you are home all day in winter? Do you turn down the radiators in the bedrooms and hope you remember to turn them up again an hour before bedtime? I can't see that heating the whole house will be economical and I'm working at home

I'm home all day in a 4bed detached bungalow,and have the heating on all day during the colder months, I set the thermostat at 20, but turn the rads down in the bedrooms & rooms that aren't used,

Its said to be more economical to leave the heating on and just control it by turning rads up or down, rather than turning it off completely.

Haven't turned the heating on yet as too early, so its blankets in the evenings I refuse to turn it on until at least mid October.

We pay £100 a moth for gas & electric, i'm always in credit over the summer, which covers the winter months give or take a few quid.

The gas fitter has had the windows and the front and back door open for 2 days. It's like an ice box in here.

We pay £86 a month for gas for heating, water and cooking. Heating is never switched off but thermostat is left on 16 all year so is never on in the spring or summer. We have 4 bedroom detached.

Our gas and electric comes to £48 a month for our 2 bed end terrace. We have a gas cooker too and a mixer shower.
