I've decided to really try and collect as many as possible. I have the Amex and am going to get 10,000 on a new cardholder deal. Any tips on what you put on the card to achieve the companion flight? I've been out trying to use it and a lot of places near me don't take Amex 😔

Just put everything you can on it. After a while you’ll get a feel for what places do/don’t take it (any large business like petrol stations, supermarkets, shop chains, Restaurant chains, amazon, pretty much any other on line shop etc all Normally take it) but always worth trying anywhere as sometimes the little independent (a more likely candidate not to take it) will sometimes surprise you. It feels to me that post Covid there are fewer and fewer places that don’t take amex given the use of cash has basically died, and I expect amex lowered their merchant rates to entice more businesses to come on board

Make sure you go through the online BA App Store (it’s on the Amex app) when shopping online, I have gained loads of extra points this way.

Don't forget that from 18th January 2021 you will no longer be able to convert your Tesco points to Avios - which is not the same as Tesco accepting payment for shopping with Amex.

I always try my Amex first with everything I spend. Most places that I shop take it. I also use it to pay for all my work travel and hotels. If you have a next account you can pay your payments with Amex then pay your Amex.
I also use it for the majority of my spending money when on holiday then clear when I get back.
My dh and I both have one and we generally spend enough between us to get a voucher each per year. May be a bit less just now right enough with there being no holidays.

We linked our Amex to our PayPal accounts. A lot of online shops that don’t take Amex will accept PayPal so you can pick up the points by paying that way.

Our Amex cards are always the first card we proffer when paying for anything from the weekly shop to expensive items to a single coffee; it all adds up and most places in London take it.
They’re also linked to our PayPals and are the default cards on our on-line shopping accounts, eg, Amazon etc, John Lewis, M & S etc.
If accepted, we pay all our annual insurance renewals (house, travel, AA, car) with them.
In addition, they’re the payment card for top ups/ad hoc payments/apps; TFL Oyster cards, Congestion Charge, Ringgo & Pay by Phone for parking, Westfield parking, our Pret Barista subscription, Caffè Nero to name a few.

Never thought about linking it to PayPal, I did discover that very doesn't take it sadly. I use them for interest free things eg I got my iPhone from them then pay off after 12 months! Thanks for the tips
