Mobile Moved from PE to Economy :(

Just had an email from BA to say there’s been a change to one of our flights.

Iam booked PE from Tampa to Manchester via PHL.

I’ve been bumped down to economy.

Fairly peeved as booked PE as it’s my husbands 50th birthday.

Before I call, do I have any ‘rights’?

I've got no idea what your rights are, sorry. But I would have a solution in mind that you're happy with, before you call. Maybe flying home a different day, but in PE? Or earlier/ later the same day. Or even a different route.

Is it the PHL-MAN segment that has been downgraded and have BA given you the reason? Is the flight a revenue (paid) booking or did you use Avios? What dates are you due to travel?

For a long haul flight, so assuming it is the PHI to MAN leg, you are entitled to a refund of 75% of the fare.

I wouldn’t be happy about that though, I would want to be moved to another flight that has the class I booked.

They should give you some flexibility if you can be.

Asking about a different route with PE. Via Chicago, or Miami comes to mind. A day or two later , or even depart from Orlando.

Ps. Sorry didn't read the Manchester bit, which might reduce the options a bit.

Thank you, it’s the PHL yo Man bit that we have been downgraded on.

Paid for with Cash!

Very disappointed!

Being reimbursed when downgraded
If you are downgraded, your airline must reimburse you within seven days. The amount you receive is calculated as a percentage of what you paid for your ticket, and depends on the length of your flight:

For short-haul flights of less than 1,500km, you will receive 30% of the price of the flight.
For medium-haul flights of 1,500km – 3,500km, or flights within the EU of more than 1,500km, you will receive 50% of the price of the flight.
For long haul flights of more than 3,500km, you will receive 75% of the price of the flight.
It is likely you will only receive a refund for the portion of your journey that was downgraded.

I would give them a call. I know it's hard to get through, but everyone I've spoken to at BA has been quite helpful. See what they can offer you. You don't have to accept it, but you may be pleasantly surprised.

The sad thing is this can and does happen due to plane changes or even last minute issues such as a broken seat.

The correct answer has already been given. A 75% refund of the leg in question.

This is where Virgin come out ahead of the others though. Every time we have been downgraded we have had a free return trip to anywhere in the World Virgin fly.

I would be ringing BA and playing the call very canny. My angle would be to see what they offer before diving in with what my rights are. In other words I would be angling for a free return flight.
Best of luck.
