I thought the same and am wondering if the suspect has said something whilst in prison that has triggered an investigation.
I really hope that this leads to a result as no matter what the circumstances were in the lead up to her going missing the parents can have closure at last.

Read this today as well. He currently in prison for raping a 72 yr old in Portugal. He also has previous convictions with sexual doings with young girls

Oh I don't know, it's just something I wondered might have happened in this case as nothing has been said as to why this suspect has suddenly come to light, all that has been said so far in the media is that he is a known paedophile who was in Portugal at the time Madeline disappeared and he changed his car number plate the day after she went missing.

It's very odd and now looking like there is only circumstantial evidence, not enough to proceed further yet they have released his name.
