Advice on airport transfer

I don't really want to swap airports between Gatwick / Heathrow but the prices are coming up so much less if I do .

Could anyone advise how much time I should allow both in and out of rush-hour so I can plan?

OK... I'm pretty sure I didn't post this in "Car hire and transportation"...

Either it's been moved by a mod or I've lost the plot!

I'll say a prayer to the mod gods and hope it moves to a more appropriate section.

I was the same, we have a 4hr window to get to Heathrow from Gatwick, we land just before 10 am so I'm happy with that amount of time I wouldn't want to risk anything under 3 hrs, you just cant predict those southern roads

Can you not do the different leg on a different day? We looked at the Jersey boomerang which involved the same swap, we could get into Gatwick 16:30 ish. Pick up car drive to Heathrow check into Premier inn then do the Heathrow to Miami leg @ 09:30 next day.

It may be possible to spread your trip the same way?

On a bad day the trip from LHR to LGW on the road from hell can be anything up to 3/4 hours. If there is an accident, bring your bed.

I'm looking at just over 4 hours between flights with the journey between airports starting between 7.00am and 8.00am on a Friday morning so sounds like I might be cutting it fine .

I didn't really want to stay overnight as it is an added expense and I was trying to keep costs down - I certainly wouldn't want to stay overnight on the way home.

I suppose the train is out as well .

Gatwick is only 30 mins from Victoria on the Gatwick Express, and it's 30 mins Victoria to Paddington, 15 mins Paddington to Heathrow T1,2 & 3.

Allowing 30 mins for walking between platforms, that is still under two hours.

And no M25.

Make sure its not an ASLEF strike or overtime ban day.

They seem to be a normal part of life on the Southern network nowadays.
