Sat Nav in SUV's?
Hi
We do not own a sat nav for USA. We are hiring an SUV with Alamo. Do those cars have them built in? Thanks, Nikki |

Not them all. There are obviously different levels of SUV and the higher spec ones will definitely have them. I would ask before you commit to a car to make sure it has what you want.

OP As above. However don't rely on a sat nav if it is in the car for it to actually work. Sometimes they are broken and sometimes the licence has run out. The problem is they wont pick up a signal in the garage so you wont know if it works until a mile or so after you have left and its acquired the satellites.
The last 2 x Lincoln luxury cars I have hired didn't even have sat nav built in! Who pays that much for a car in the US and doesn't have sat nav, weird!

Don't purchase sat nav. There are free apps that you can download that are really good. There is a Navmii USA app which is very good. We have the tom tom app and it has never let us down. All you have to do is to remember to switch off your mobile data when using it or you'll get a higher mobile bill.

Our full size SUV had a fully functioning sat nav. We had bought a new one here with US maps as well! A tip though. Do not use postcodes like you would here in the U.K. US postcode areas are huge and thus useless. We ended up very lost in a not nice area on our way from the airport to the Hard Rock Hotel.

In the last three rentals they all had built in Sat Navs. Only one worked. The license had run out on the other two. It looks like you have to subscribe to a system in the USA. New cars come with a few months subscription to draw in the owner, who, one day goes to their car and finds their sat Nav has stopped working! You also seem to lose the Satellite Sirius radio at the same time and are left with FM AM

We have always hired a sat nav but for this year I have downloaded navmii onto my iPad
I downloaded the uk one and used it the other day. I just placed it on my passenger seat and listened to instructions. it's as good as any sat nav. It also has the feature of saving favourite places so I have already pre-loaded USA one with hotels, restaurants, shopping malls etc |
