Adding additional driver for 2 days?
We're going to Orlando in November with my parents and brother. On 5th November, my Dad and brother are going to Miami to see the Dolphins game and staying overnight. The plan was they would take the hire car and we'd use resort transportation (we're staying at AKL) and/or chill out at the hotel.
But my husband needs to be the main driver, as my Dad gets really stressed driving in and around Orlando, he can't understand the grid system. Usually I would be the second driver as I don't drink in Florida, whereas the others all like a pint with their evening meal, and we like to eat off site, so I'm 'des'. So my question is, is it possible to add my Dad as a third driver, so he can take the car to Miami, or are we better off hiring another car for 24-48 hours which he and my brother can take? Obviously don't want to add him for the whole trip as I think it's $25/day extra. Our booking is with Alamo Brits.

Ring Alamo Brits and ask the question since you're already booked with them...

If your Dad has problems in Orlando, you can't imagine how difficult it going to be in Miami, on expressways with 9 lanes on each side. You're sending him to a city of 5 million people.
Fly up there on Spirit with small personal bag, $100 round trip. Edited at 03:37 AM. |

I've perhaps made my Dad sound like a sissy - he's not, he grew up in south London and he's driven all over the world, so a 300 mile journey will be child's play. We don't use sat nav in Orlando and he couldn't get his bearings, so it's easier for him not to drive there.
There's no question of them flying or using the train. They will be driving and taking the sat nav. My brother is 24 so we're not paying the premium for him to drive. Can anyone answer my question?

Kate. I'm sure you can pop into the Car Care Centre the day before he needs the car and add your Dad on for the required time at a cost. As you say probably $25 per day.
Another option worth exploring is to price up a package with Andy on here to see if he can supply the same vehicle with the extra drivers you need as he does a 4 driver package. If it is cheaper or within the ball park then cancel Brits. Worth a thought
