Mobile Different Surname

We are travelling next year as a family of 5, I am remarried so my surname is now different to my Daughter so there will be myself, DH, Step Daughter and Step Son all with same surname then DD with a different one, my question is will I have to get a letter of authority from her Dad for USA immigration purposes?

I still have a great relationship with her Dad and so does she so there is no problem with taking her but just wondered if authorities will question the different name?

Hope that all makes sense? :-))

How would they validate any letter was genuine?

I’ve never had a problem getting into the US with my granddaughter, its coming back to this country (presuming you are UK based) that I have had to show my letter, but only once..no problems though...he glanced at it, and we was good to go.

Even though now married, I stilll have my maiden name so different to my husband and our daughter's name. Every october half term myself, daughter and parents go away for a mini break (Barcelona on Brexit day this year). To 'validate' my husband photocopies his passport onto a short note saying my daughter and I are on holiday without him. Only been asked on re entry to U.K. and my daughter simply has asked what her relationship is to me.

This is a good idea, I was grilled at a French port when dd1 was 3. My passport was in my maiden name and we were travelling with my brother, dd had a different name to us. He grilled us for ages not helped by dd refusing to confirm I was her mum eventually he let us through but for a good 20mins I was wondering if they would
Only experience of this but also my only experience of travelling with different names without dh.

We travel every year there are 3 of us all with different surnames. They always ask dd who I am, and she answers, they never ask who my partner is. I have always carried a letter from her dad and have never once been asked for it. I will always carry one just to be sure though.
We always have problems coming back to the UK, not helped by the exhaustion, but it's only ever been a couple of questions to dd and never an interrogation

The Direct.Gov website says any parent travelling with a child needs written consent from the non-travelling parent. I'd get a letter.

When going together we travel as a group of 5 with 4 different surnames .. never been a problem.
The only two with the same are my twin sons lol .. even when it’s just me and them it’s never been a problem. Never once in the last 11 years have we been asked for a letter .. I did worry for the first few trips but now I don’t even think about it.

The immigration officer has asked the kids in the past who they are travelling with but they have just said Mam or dad and never a problem x

I have a different surname to my daughter and have never been asked for a letter of authority, I have always taken Dds birth certificate with me to prove I’m her mum.
