The Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Father Christmas, Disney Characters... the truth will be found out eventually... But, I don't want to be the one that delivers that blow!

This thread comes up every year and I always wonder how many kids are pretending?

When I was 7 years old, back in the 1970s, I was the last in my class to believe in Father Christmas. I brought in a photo of him as proof, and I couldn't understand why everybody laughed at me!

If we were that wise back in the days before tech and social media, how much earlier will today's kids figure it out?

I still got stockings though!

Our grandson is 9 and told us 2 weeks ago that he knew Father Christmas isn’t real.
Our daughter has made him promise not to tell his 3 cousins who are almost 7 5 and 2

Picked up the twins from their swimming lesson and the instructor (an absolutely lovely lady who is so good with pre-school children) pointed out a green light to a couple of them who were being typical 3/4 year olds that it was a Santa cam and they were watching from the North Pole so could they please behave or they might end up on the naughty list.. Whole class snapped to and did what she wanted (parents were sniggering) but it worked. Our two every time they saw a green smoke alarm or other blinking lights of our motion alarm sensors wanted to know if they had to be good. Guess what Grandma said

I have a 7 year old who is very inquisitive and questions everything. I think this may be the last year I can get genuine belief from her but I think she will play along for another few because she'll be too scared of losing the pressies

I read that 8 is the average year that children stop believing and given they only really understand Christmas from age 3 upwards it's really not a long time

My son was in the last year of Junior school when he asked the question
I told him the story of the Bishop of Myra assured him that even as a grown up Christmas is still a bit "magic" .

My sister's little boy is 7 and is so invested this year. He loves running downstairs every morning to see what Elf on the Shelf has done and has already made his mum promise to put the Santa tracker on the big tv on Christmas Eve. This may well be his last year of believing but it's lovely while it lasts.

My niece is 10 and SIL reckons that she still believes but I'm a bit doubtful, especially considering she's had unrestricted access to youtube and tiktok for several years now. I think she's more worried about the amount of presents being less for non-believers

My middle son is 18 and he was telling me the other day that he remembers the moment he found out 😬 he was in year 7 and with his mates, one lad asked if anyone still believed in Father Christmas and my son and another lad said yes, the rest of the lads laughed and told them it was just mum and dad so my son laughed along and said ‘I know, I was only kidding!’ 🫢🫢
My youngest is 11 and in year 7 but if he has doubts he hasn’t mentioned any, he is still excited to find where Buddy (elf on the shelf) is hiding each day.
To be fair I have never over sold the whole Father Christmas because I tend to talk about the birth of Jesus instead and how special and magical that was. 🥰

I was starting to get really worried about DS as he was well into his teens and 'believed' - had visions of sitting his fiancee down on the night of his wedding, then found out he had known since primary but kept pretending because he didn't want to upset me
