Just finished my food ordering for Christmas Eve UPDATE post no. 9
Our Christmas Eve get together with our gang of friends. Beef bourguignon with dunking bread, jellies and mini confectionery (cakes). I wanted to keep it simple as there are ten of us and I don’t want to be cooking.
What is nice bread for dunking please? DD suggested ciabatta from Costco. Oh, now I am really hungry. Edited at 12:19 PM. |

I love a crusty baguette for dunking and mopping up the gravy

Think I'd go for a baguette rather than ciabatta. Costco do some parbaked ones which are very good and don't take long to finish off

So with a baguette, would I cut it into “rounds” or elongated portions sliced down the middle?

I would do rounds - and like a prior poster suggested - the part baked ones are really nice for that.

I'd go with rounds as well

I didn’t get to serve anything. There were four couples coming. The daughter of one couple is seriously ill in hospital and it was touch and go. Another couple had their family come over. I looked at the weather forecast which was for fog. Not nice driving in fog in the dark so the other two couples pulled out. Actually there was no fog!
DH and I had beef bourguignon for dinner on three alternate days, gave some to the friends whose daughter is in hospital and more to our DD. It was not suitable for freezing, which was a shame. The beef was really delicious and extremely good value. There was a lot lot of beef, something which I had not expected. I would certainly buy it again. |

Oh dear, it sounds like our New Year's Eve plans. 2 couples are ill and pulled out today and the other couple is letting us know tomorrow. Looks like it will just be me and DH, as kids have a better offer elsewhere - lol! Luckily, we were just about to go out and get the party food when our friends let us know, so we won't be eating sausage rolls for ever😁.
I hope your friend's daughter is okay. |
