To get TSA Pre clearance it must be with an airline that is part of the program (the airline must provide data to DHS). Aside from most US airlines, Virgin is the only UK airline that participates as this time, so those travelling on BA, Aer Lingus, Thomas Cook, Norwegian, etc do not get TSA Pre even if they are Global Entry holders.

Current list of participating airlines :

We have Global Entry and I believe that it automatically gives you TSA Pre on any airline.

We aren't members of Global Entry but were TSA Pre✓ selected in May for our MCO to Man flight. Whilst TSA Pre✓ is part of GE membership, none GE members can't apply for TSA Pre✓ in it's own right, it's a TSA discretion privilege for frequent/trusted flyers.

Apparently, whilst BA are not members of TSA Pre✓, AA are, so those deemed a regular traveller on a BA/AA code share may be TSA selected for Pre✓.

I don't know why but my son gets TSA pre check every time, yet none of us do. He doesn't fly (he's 15) any more than the rest of us .

Just means he could go through a different security line in the USA but he stays with us. Its nothing to so with immigration.

I believe that is NOT correct. In GE you are 'eligible,' not 'automatic', and is dependent on you using participating airports and airlines. The FAQ on this official site
tsa.gov/precheck/faq
state that it is limited to the airlines that are registered. If in GE, you have to supply your 'Known Traveler Number' when booking and you specifically need 'TSAPre' printed on your boarding card or in the barcode to use the TSAPre lane. You can't do that if the airline is not set up for it.
VA are participating.

Was selected for TSA pre-check at JFK, La Guardia and Nashville (flew with American Airlines) and queued for less than 5 minutes each time.

I'll admit to not being aware of the pre-check, wondered what the difference was
