Mobile Any successes with booking a last minute cruise?

Hello, I have been on one DCL and 3 NCL family cruises and loved them all! I want to go away with my friend for a 5 - 7 nights and due to her recovering from a serious illness do not want to book now but wait until May/June so she is confident she will be fit for a August/Sept cruise and I wanted to see has anyone left their booking so close to their embarkation date and did you get a bargain or pay over the odds? I am an organiser so this is a bit alien for me but keen to hear other Dibb cruisers experiences - also we are open to the where we embark/route etc thanks

We did a marella last minute in early July this year. We booked a week before we went. But there were hardly any cruises to choose from, with anyone and on the med one that we did, we saved about £400 but only had the choice of 2 cabins ,both inside or a suite which was too expensive.
I wouldn't rule out a last minute one .but you may not get what you want

How did you find Marella if you don’t mind?

I booked a P&O cruise to the Fjords for the 1st June, on the 3rd May. There wasn’t a lot of choice cabin wise, but it was cheap, and I only wanted a cheapy inside anyway.

Also not long booked a cruise for the 21st Jan, that one was busier so I had to go outside and the duration with booking and going is longer.
I imagine you will be fine

Not everyone’s cup of tea but we did a 2 night Queen Mary 2 from Hamburg to Southampton last June for £220 each including flights and that was for a balcony cabin. It does a lot of positioning cruises to pick up and drop off the Germans either side of transatlantic cruises and they sell off a lot of cabins cheap at the last minute just to fill them.

We booked in June for first week in September with Royal Caribbean Greek Islands and then with Marella a month before again Greek Isles (different ports).

No issues with either but we prefer an inside cabin anyway which tends to be what’s left.

For what it’s worth I wouldn’t sail Marella again but each to their own.

We booked this year in June to go July with celebrity. Had originally wanted RCL, but sold out on the itinerary we wanted, so guess that's the chance you take. We actually got a decent price for such a close embarkation date, and we enjoyed celebrity.

We nearly booked the Disney a Magic UK cruise this September just 2 weeks before sailing as it wS a very good price. Very little choice in cabins and we knew all the activities we wanted would be full eg adult dinning, mixology but we were prepared to give it a go. We were all set to press the button them my husbands boss refused his holidays -we were gutted!

Thanks everyone - I am not a fan of last minute and I really like NCL so I might suggest paying a £50 deposit on a cruise to my friend and leave flights so only gambling with our deposit.
