The Long Overdue Mother and Daughter Trip - July 2019 - Day 2 'Who needs sleep!'

Wowzers those room phones are loud! The phone alarm startled me awake at 6.30am, I picked up the receiver and was disappointed to hear just a standard wake up message, no character voice like we’ve had previously

Somehow Chloe managed to sleep through all of this, but I got myself up and into the shower.

Once Chloe had been roused from her slumber we got ourselves dressed, today’s t-shirt of choice was another one from Asda

Along with choosing t-shirts I also had to choose some ears, which is a new experience for me! Today I decided I would wear my Up ears that Blondie1979 very kindly brought back from Florida for me.

With bags packed…and hardly anything in them compared to the winter months…

...we headed down to the Golden Forest Lounge.

Pretending that we were stopping for breakfast we were shown to a table, then promptly gathered up a handful of pastries in a napkin and walked back out again!

With a light breakfast in our hands we were ready to hit the Disneyland Park before our proper breakfast reservation at Plaza Gardens

After a lovely stroll around Lake Disney and through Disney Village we arrived at Disneyland Park shortly after 8am and made our way in. The park was lovely and empty so we took the opportunity for some castle photo’s, including recreating one from when Chloe was 4!

Then...

Now...

With photo’s taken we headed through the castle and into Fantasyland. Because it was still before 8.30am Cast Members were holding guests back just near the entrance to Auberge, in front of the Carousel.

As soon as 8.30am arrived though all hell broke loose as people ran…..yes ran, to Princess Pavilion…..we may have also been guilty of running

Straight into Princess Pavilion and we were about 5th in the queue, awesome! Whilst waiting we got chatting with the family in front of us, they were really hoping to meet Cinderella, on our way in I had taken a very quick glance at the sign and it had said Cinderella so I said that it was probably going to be her. Chloe mentioned that she would be very happy if it was Ariel as she really wanted to meet her. Imagine our surprise when it got to our turn just 20 minutes later, and there was Ariel! Obviously I was delighted for Chloe, who was beside herself….but I was also sad for the little girl!

Ariel was a fantastic meet, she was so chatty and sweet, adding bubbles to her autograph in Chloe’s book. The Cast Member took a video as well as photo’s for us and I’m so glad she did, it was a great character interaction!

Chloe decided to spend some of her hard-earned money on one of the official Photopass photos as they were so good and has said that she is going to take it to university with her

After Princess Pavilion we strolled towards the Tea Cups, which was a walk on, so it would have been rude not to!

After the tea cups I suggested we walk over to Peter Pan as the queue shouldn’t be too long at this time of day, how wrong was I it was already showing 30 minutes! We decided to by-pass it on this occasion knowing that we still had plenty of time in which to do it.

The Carousel however was also a walk-on, at which point Chloe said, we can do this then it’ll be time for our breakfast, I had completely forgotten about breakfast, clearly I was having too much fun!

Carousel done, we headed for Plaza Gardens, stopping to see if Chloe was able to remove the sword from the stone, it appeared not!

Finally it was time for breakfast!

We joined the queue and waited patiently for the Cast Members to finish clearing up from the earlier sitting, after about 10 minutes waiting though we were all asked to move outside of the restaurant which was slightly tricky given that the queue behind us had grown considerably, cue lots of gesticulating from me and others to get everyone to move back, there was no way I was loosing my place

Eventually we were seated at a table for 2 that was right by the buffet area, and with plates loaded we tucked in!

First course for me was obviously savoury, followed by sweet, yum!

Chloe just went for it

After around 20 minutes the characters started to circulate, first up was Eeyore who gives the best hugs!

Next we were visited by Tigger who was, of course, very bouncy!

Then, and I was so excited, it was Piglet! I’ve never met Piglet before and told him so to which he signed that he had never met me either, cute!

After Piglet we had a visit from a very sassy Daisy Duck, who was looking gorgeous as always!

Swiftly followed by Donald, who delighted in us telling him that he was the No.1 duck.

At that point the characters had a short break and I managed to find the hot drinks machines to make a cup of tea, I was gasping!

On their return Goofy popped over to say hi!

Now the one character we hadn’t yet met, and who we could see doing the rounds was Mickey. He had been close to our table just as they took their break and I suspected that he thought we had already had our meet…..obviously I wasn’t going to leave without meeting the main mouse! I popped over to one of the Cast Members who was escorting the characters and very politely explained that we hadn’t yet met Mickey and he didn’t look like he was heading in our direction any time soon.

A quiet word in Mickey’s ear from the Cast Member and within a few minutes he came over to see us.

All in all it was a really good character breakfast, as when I’ve done Plaza Gardens before it is quite rushed, you don’t get a huge amount of time with the characters but we got just enough time with them for us to be satisfied

We left Plaza Gardens full of yummy breakfast and with 7 characters ticked off the list! Well this trip is all about the characters!

We headed over to Buzz and after the queuing debacle the night before decided to get a fast pass given that they were for only 30 mins later.

It was then that we could hear music and realised that Jungle Book Jive was about to start. We took up position on the pavement with our back to Discoveryland and waited for it to start, it was getting very warm at this point and we were in the sun so we tried our best to cover up!

This show was absolutely brilliant! The music, the dancers, the costumes, everything about it was awesome!

Unfortunately the position we’d chosen was where the character vehicles stop, which was great initially, but meant that after they’d disembarked our view was mainly of an empty vehicle, but this in no way detracted from how brilliant the show was.

With the show over we turned around and headed to Buzz to use our fast passes. We were on within about 10 minutes (just slightly different to last night!). Unfortunately our guns weren’t working great, although I did manage to rack up my best score to date, but typically didn’t take a photo! On leaving the ride we waited a while to see if our photo would come up on the screens but they were taking forever to change over, this was a problem with Buzz during our whole trip and we didn’t get to see a single on-ride photo

After Buzz we wandered back into Fantasyland checking the times for Peter Pan fast passes, they were showing 3.10 – 3.40pm so we decided to go for it and get them even though that was a little while away. Being in that area we popped over to Pirates which was showing a 30 minute wait but the queue was always moving and it didn’t feel anywhere near as long.

On exiting Pirates we saw that Peter Pan and Wendy were meeting, neither of us have met them before so how could we resist!

We joined the queue to be told by a Cast Member that it could be up to an hour before we got our turn, Chloe was really keen to wait so wait we did…..and wait….and wait, in direct sunlight, no shade, for a whole hour. I was literally melting!

But we did have some great chats with British families either side of us in the queue about the weather, we Brits do love a chat about the weather

Finally it was our turn! This was one of the best meets ever! Peter Pan and Wendy were amazing! We must have been with them for at least 5 minutes (sorry to the rest of the queue!) Wendy spotted Chloe’s tattoo and couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t rub off this is one of our favourite photo’s from the whole trip.

I was seriously starting to flag at this point, but we saw an alert pop up from ED92 on Twitter to say that Merida was meeting over near Cowboy Cookout. Given that we weren’t too far from there was headed over and joined the queue….again in direct sun, we queued for 30 minutes before meeting Merida, who was lovely and asked us if we’d seen her brothers anywhere?

After that meet I asked Chloe is she would mind us finding some shade and sitting down for a while, not only was I hot but an ankle injury I was sporting was starting to play up and my back was hurting…..man I’m getting old! We walked over to Liberty Arcade and took a seat at one of the tables, it was such a relief to get out of the sun and off of my feet!

We sat there for about 20 minutes when I said to Chloe that I might head back to the hotel and not worry about the Peter Pan fast pass. She seemed a little disappointed so I backtracked and said I would do Peter Pan after all but after that we should both head back to the hotel.

Off to Peter Pan we went, trying to avoid the crowds waiting for the next showing of Jungle Book Jive, on approaching Peter Pan though I could see that the fast pass queue was ridiculously long, easily a 30 minute wait, and of course, it was in the sun!

Both Chloe and I agreed that it wasn’t worth it and we took the decision to head out of the park and back to the hotel for afternoon tea.

On our way back Chloe asked if she could pop into World of Disney and have a look around. I was feeling very sorry for myself by this point so suggested she have a mooch on her own and meet me back at the hotel, I just knew that if I stopped now I might never make it back so that’s what we did. The relief of getting back to the hotel was immense! I was a hot, sweaty, and in pain mess!

I lay on the bed for a bit waiting for Chloe to get back, when she did she gave me the loveliest surprise. She’d actually been hoping I wouldn’t want to go into the shop as she wanted to buy me the mug I had been eyeing up the day before!

It was quite the emotional moment!

Obviously I straight away had to make myself a cup of tea in it! After my cuppa I threw myself into the shower because I was gross and got changed into fresh clothes before we headed down for afternoon tea in the Golden Forest Lounge.

I didn’t want to eat too much however as that evening we would be doing the Buffalo Bills Wild West Show which includes dinner.

On our way back up to our room we popped to the concierge desk to check how long before the show starts we should arrive and were shocked when the lady said an hour, I’m glad we checked! That meant we only had another 45 minutes or so of downtime before we needed to head out so we both laid on the beds for a bit and chilled out.

A short while later we headed out of the hotel, surprised that it was still so hot! And strolled around the lake to Buffalo Bills.

Once inside we queued up for a little while, then they took our magic pass from us at the counter which had out tickets on it. At this point I told the Cast Member that I was vegetarian and was given a little ticket to hold on to until dinner was served. We were allocated the yellow team and picked up our hats.

Then we had to wait in the holding area, where there are no seats…..my back and ankle were really giving me jip at this point! After a little while we saw Mickey in his western outfit wander through, but sadly he wasn’t stopping for any photos. Then shortly after that a western band came on stage and played songs, and were then joined by Goofy.

It was all great fun, but all I wanted to do was sit down!

After a little while longer we were allowed into the theatre to take our seats. Unfortunately we were right down the end of a row right by the front of the arena which meant that our view was obstructed slightly. But once seated I reminded Chloe that we had photo’s to take to replicate those from when she was 4….the last time we saw this show!

Then...

...now

I also had to take one of myself to compare back to then!

Then...

...now

The show was really good fun, and the food was pretty good too (as was the beer ), but what really made it for us was our yellow team ‘clown’ he was sensational, his interaction with the crowd was awesome even though he was only getting reactions from a few of us, myself and Chloe included of course! Every now and again he would catch our eye and we would shout and whoop which he loved. Towards the end he came down each of the rows to high five us as he got to me I shouted out ‘You’re awesome!’ and he said ‘No! You’re awesome!’ which made my night

Once the show was over we slowly filtered out only to see it was still light and still warm…I’d been expecting it to be dark for some reason!

Both Chloe and I had a second wind (that'll be the beer ) and decided to head back into Disneyland Park, by now it was around 8.30pm.

We realised that we hadn’t yet paid a visit to the dragon so that was our first stop. We then checked the app for ride times and saw that Indiana Jones was only 30 minutes.

The queue constantly moved so it didn’t feel like we were waiting that long at all. The ride was absolutely brutal and my shoulders felt so bruised when I got off!

We headed towards Phantom Manor, with a plan to ride Big Thunder Mountain in the dark but we still had a while to go before the sun would set! Gerard called while we were in Frontierland and we had a good chat, Daddy had taken him to see Toy Story 4 (on a school night!) so he was buzzing because he’d done something that Chloe and I hadn’t….I was happy as long as he was happy!

Phantom Manor was a walk on but had a lot of technical issues which resulted in us being held by the doom buggies for at least 10 minutes!

Afterwards it still wasn’t quite dark enough so Chloe and I took a seat near the Cowboy Cookout and savoured the moment watching people go by and soaking up the atmosphere.

The temperature had finally started to drop to the point that Chloe and I put our cardigan/hoodie on.

Finally we decided it was dark enough for BtM, and with our hotel fast pass in hand walked straight onto it!

Obviously we took a selfie on ‘selfie hill’

This was a fantastic ride, I’ve never ridden it in the dark/dusk before, the park in the distance looks so pretty.

After we rode BtM we had a bit more time to kill before Illuminations so I took some photo’s around Frontierland.

It was very quiet in Frontierland, and that was because every single person in the park had headed for the castle to take up position for Illuminations. I swear I’ve never seen so many people! We took up position at 10.30pm and waited for the show to start at 11pm….I was seriously flagging now!

Because it got so busy, and because we were halfway down Main Street Chloe really struggled to see, especially when children were then put onto shoulders and a bazillion phones were lifted high to film it. Urgh.

Once the show was over we headed out of the park taking our time as Chloe doesn’t do great in crowds. We popped into a few shops too to try to avoid the masses and paused at the fountains in front of the Disneyland Hotel.

Eventually we made our way back to the hotel, popping into the shop to collect Chloe’s photo that she’d had sent back to the hotel rather than carrying it around all day.

Finally we were back in our room, into our PJ’s with a cup of tea and in bed. We fell asleep just before 1am!

That’s a long day! It seems so odd to see pics of you in the park without thick winter clothes and scarf 😊
LOVE the mug Chloe bought for you (you know me and mugs - can never have too many )
The breakfast looked amazing- I’ve just put this on my list for November!

You need to put the mug on your list for November too

The Plaza Gardens breakfast is really good, I've done it twice now and highly recommend it...I still can't believe we got 7 characters in one sitting!

Wow what a jam-packed day, I felt exhausted just reading it so I am no surprised you struggled a little come the end!

So many amazing character meets though, I love the photos with Peter and Wendy!

And I will say it again... you haven't aged at all!

(and so lovely of Chloe to buy the mug for you, what a sweetheart!)
