Just want to clap that you are going on another cruise! With DH or alone? How exciting! (no haven't been to any of the ports sorry)

All on my own this time. I had 2 weeks leave that I just had to take before end of March but it was too soon for him to close again so he persuaded me to do it.
If I’m going away on my own, it’ll be a cruise, they are so fab!

We went on our first cruise on D2 end of July around the Med.

It's a lovely ship we stayed in a balcony cabin 6552 midship & it was a quiet room along from the coffee shop.

We never ate in the supplement restaurants, but enjoyed the main dining room & Italian upstairs. Also ate in Islands buffet which was also really nice. I think it's about 3pm they have afternoon tea, sausage rolls, sandwiches and lovely scones with fresh cream & jam. All help yourself it was really nice.
Snack shack was handy for beside the pool snacks.

Drinks are wheeled around the pool areas / decks. Beer, soft drinks etc icy cold or there are the bars.

Pool is ice cold & deep, but you float as its filtered sea water it's strange!
Lots to do on ship, we loved it so much we are cruising again next year but for 2 weeks instead of cruise & stay. Next year we will be on the Explorer as it has the itinerary we want to do.

Hi Elaine,
Thanks so much for your reply, I'm so glad you liked the ship, and I'm getting excited now.

Did you upgrade the beverage package at all? I'm in 2 minds.

Also, did you use the wifi? I have never got the wifi before on a ship, but as I'm going solo and leaving DH at home with the dog and outside Europe, I'd like to be able to contact home.

No we didn't bother upgrading as we were happy with the drinks on AI.
As for WIFI we also didn't bother as it's expensive. We used our data or wifi onshore as we were in the med.

If you are on FB there is a very good group called Marella Discovery 2 (Tui Discovery 2)
Its a wealth of info.

Thankyou! I’ve joined the group.

I’m thinking about not upgrading the drinks too, although the bottled water would be handy so I’m still unsure.

I’ll be in the Caribbean and would really like to contact home, so may have to splash out on the WiFi for the first time ever x

You could buy a Chilly bottle & fill it from the ice cold water machines on board to take on excursions (or drink by the pool)

Thats what we did

In terms of the wifi it really is a tiny amount you get. I was next to a lady who was trying to message her family and what she bought had gone in 20 mins. So expensive too from memory. Can you not pay for some sort of "passport" deal on your current phone for whilst you are away?

The drinks package was just not worth it for us but is for many. We used the water stations to top up our bottles and just paid the upgrade fee on each drink if we fancied something that wasn't on the standard AI. Luckily our drinks of choice (srrongbow, prosecco and gin) were all standard.

I hadn’t even thought of the water bottle idea! Well done ladies! Cracking idea, saves plastic too.
I don’t really think I need the upgrade tbh, I drink cava, Prosecco and strongbow too, plus my fave cocktails all seem to be covered.
I’m with giffgaff and they don’t do the daily price upgrade thing unfortunately.
Just had a look and it’s crackers expensive to use the phone any day except Mexico where it is quite cheap really.
I’m in Havana 2 days, and apparently you can buy data cards or the like quite cheap, then maybe use my phone in Mexico, and leave it off the rest of the time or just send a text.
I wouldn’t give it a second thought if I wasn’t going on my own though
