Dubai hotels

Please help - my head is frazzled at all the hotel choices available in Dubai.

We are doing a cruise from Dubai in January and have tagged a couple of nights on the end. I have started looking but need some advice.

I am hoping to spend around £150 per night. I don't know whether to opt for the marina or the city. If I was to opt for the marina area, how easy is it to get to the city?

Its our first time to Dubai so want to cram in as much as possible.

TIA

I have never been but from my research avoid the palm if you are looking to sight see and cram in loads.

If you want to have a look around Dubai best staying nearer the city or Old Dubai. The Atlantis is a fab hotel, we stayed there, but if went back I would stay in Old Dubai. The palm and marina are nice areas but removed from most of the central sightseeing destinations. Its easy enough to get around in a taxi, but it takes time and can get pricy.

We stayed at the Hilton the walk Jumeirah beach. It had some shops/restaurants including the Cheesecake Factory (yum) nearby.
We walked to the tram station and got the tram down to the mall and Burj Khalifa.
