Share the lesser known attractions or places to visit

Probably no good for anyone travelling in the summer months, but I’m going to tell you anyway... my perfect day away from the parks would start off at the Manatee Viewing Centre near Apollo Beach where we would have a nice walk watching the Manatees swimming in the warm water from the power station.
Our second stop would beat the Ellenton Mall for a quick bit of retail therapy followed by a trip over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge en-route to Fort Desoto State Park. On arrival at Fort Desoto we would start with a bit of Shelling in the lovely warm waters of the gulf followed by lunch at the pier cafe eaten under the umbrellas watching dolphins in Tampa Bay.
Finish the day with a couple of hours Kayaking with the Manatees followed by watching the sunset at the end of the pier.
The manatee Viewing Centre is free to get in. Fort Desoto Park is 5 dollars and you will have. Couple of dollars for tolls. Kayaking is 60 dollars (ish). The whole day including lunch for under 100 dollars for two people... Result !

Blue Springs State Park in manatee season - great to take a picnic.

Audubon Centre for Birds of Prey, Maitland, off the I4 to East of Universal parks. View the birds, and a lovely lake where i
think you could try your hand at fishing... Takes abt 1 hour and there's an entrance fee.

Octagon Wildlife Park between Punta Gorda and Fort Myers has all sorts of rescued animals. Lions, bears, monkeys, Florida panthers, Black leopards etc etc.
We also love Sarasota Jungle Gardens, beautiful gardens with parrot shows, gator shows and reptile shows.
Arcadia town is full of antique and bric a brac shops and a very old town to walk around.
