The Lake District
Hi everyone 🙋
I have never been to the Lake District and really fancy a visit. It will be for two weeks as it's quite a drive from us. Despite spending a long time looking for the right place, I just cannot decide. Ideally I would like somewhere overlooking a lake on a quiet park. It will be 2a and 2 children aged 14 and 12. We are hoping to explore, walk, horse ride and maybe some watersports too. Has anybody visited somewhere on a lakeside setting that they enjoyed? Would love to hear any thoughts and ideas. Thank you 😁 |

Have a look around Ullswater. It's a quieter lake but with good water sport facilities. Also a lot of residential caravan sites around.
Just not quite as touristy. |

I like the Windermere area and can recommend a trip to Brockhole for the kids.

Ullswater is our favourite place in the lakes, very peaceful and has the lovely villages of Pooley Bridge and Glenridding at either end of lake.

Brockholes is a great day out, if you pick the right day in the summer they often have open air plays etc going on (probably not this year though)
To the OP - the locals in the Lake District are currently quite hostile (for obvious reasons) to having people visit, so if you want to feel welcome I wouldn't be planning a trip until the country is properly "re-opened" It is however a beautiful place and any of the lakes are great to base yourself around. Ullswater/Windermere are the big hubs - so depends if you want other things or just a quiet chilled holiday |

I would start my trip in Keswick, ( l live near here so I’m biased) lots of things going on here for all ages. Then work my way through all the other places. Finishing in maybe in Windermere.
( just a note, none of the water activities are available at the moment and I can’t see them opening any time soon, plus as above I don’t know when you are planning to come but things are a little strained for obvious reasons ) Edited at 03:10 PM. |

Parkfoot campsite on Ullswater is good enough for a couple of weeks. You have enough onsite and local for 1 week plus you can have fun driving to ambleside along a great road. Aira force is a nice walk, the pony trekking up on the fell is nice. Plus it isn't as packed as windermere. You can restock in Penrith for cheap.
Im biased though as i live up the road from there on the way to Blencathra. |
