WWYD? Disney changes
We have 17 nights booked at AoA in December. I paid £2845 extra for the DDP for 3 adults (DS is 12). Following the announcement that Disney is cancelling all the DDP’s and along with all the other potential restrictions I decided to change the holiday and not bother with Disney this year, however when I emailed my TA she said to wait until Disney’s announcement or I would be charged £50 pp by Disney for cancelling the holiday.
Cue today... still no announcement and I’ve now discovered (from Disney website not from the TA) that the big blue pool will likely be closed during our stay! I really want to amend now and do 7 days at Universal and 10 days in a villa but don’t really want to be charged £150 for changing when I’m only changing the holiday because it’s not what was sold to me. What are your thoughts? Should I wait for the announcement (and hope that the quote I’ve got for universal and villa doesn’t increase) or just go ahead and amend now and accept the £150 charge? |

Could you email Disney direct and ask about the £50pp charge? Lots could have changed before December- I think I'd personally get a better understanding of how flexible the policies are and keep Disney until September/ October time when things start to look a bit clearer.

I've already booked to go to Universal instead, staying at Sapphire Falls. It's nearly £700 less than what POFQ is costing me. I haven't rung Disney to cancel yet, am going to leave it a couple of weeks till the dust settles. I don't know if I'll lose the deposit but with such a big difference in price I don't mind taking the hit. It is only me though so just £50.

That’s a good idea. I will email them and ask.
Our plan was to pay for the DDP and not hire a car and eat at Disney for the entirety of our stay, however what I paid for the DDP wouldn’t cover the meals I had planned and I doubt of some of them will even be available now 😢 I don’t think (and wouldn’t expect) disney to be offering anything other than a refund of the cost of the DDP which doesn’t make it worth staying onsite now really. I honestly don’t think Disney are planning to ease many of their restrictions until next year and hearing about the main pool being closed just topped it off really. I can’t see it being much of a holiday at Disney (especially when you think how much we are paying for it) which is why I think we are probably better just changing it. |

You would've thought that with such an important amenity being out of action Disney would waive the deposit really.

I have a December booking, unfortunately I have three bookings as my flights were booked afterwards and dates didn't fit at the beginning or end. I decided to try out a couple of different resorts rather than extend the reservation I had. My main booking has a purchased dining plan. One of the other resorts is AoA too.
Anyway, I contacted Disney a few days ago, pointed out that due to the new measures, I wished to cancel with return of deposit. They replied that they are not returning deposits for any cancellations after 13th July. I told them to keep the bookings as they are in that case. I thought I would do that and see if the situation changes later or if I can transfer to a booking next year. Edited at 11:13 AM. Reason: grammar |

Unless I’m missing something then your booking is with your TA and as such needs to be amended or adjusted through them?

Yes it is but when I have contacted my TA they have stated that because I would effectively be cancelling the Disney element that Disney would charge me £50pp to cancel.
My TA seems really reluctant to let me amend until Disney have made an announcement but to be honest the longer time goes on the less likely I think there is any point in waiting for it. I think I will contact the TA tomorrow and state I am willing to pay the £50pp fee and just amend it. |
