I am within driving distance of both so have never had to do it. But I am familiar with the M25 and there is no way I would want to transfer with a 3.5 hour window. The one hour quoted by google maps is laughable unless it is 3am. I would want something like 7 hours or would break the journey overnight.

Thanks I'm really not familiar with the area so its good to know. It seems like it may be too stressful/long to bother doing as the prices aren't amazing

We done it this year for the first time... landed at 7am and had to get to LHR in 5 hours
Had a car from Blackberry cabs booked and ready for us landing... had time to get breakfast in LHR and a short time to look at the shops

Overall though, would not do it again...too much hassle / stress with 2 kids as well

We are doing overnight on the way out and have 6 hours on the way back. Could have booked a 3hr transfer but decided not to chance it. It will be a crap travel home but who cares we will be depressed anyway 😂

We did this in late October this year, landed at 7.30 at Heathrow and were on the 11.15 from Gatwick. We booked a private transfer and thankfully the traffic on the m25 was kind to us so we made it with plenty of time to spare. The most stressful part for me was having to collect the luggage at Heathrow, felt like it took ages. I guess most luggage and people are transferring onto other flights so it felt like the bags to be collected were of a lower priority!

I might as well stick my two penneth in. We did this on 15 August this year. LHR to LGW. The flight from MAN to LHR was supposed to land at 8 am leaving us with 3 hours 15 mins for our flight from LGW. The flight was delayed at MAN by about 30 mins. We then had to circle LHR for goodness how know long before we got a landing slot. I can't tell you how stressful this was. I felt like I was climbing the walls. I think we were 40 mins or so late in the end (I can't quite remember now but it was around this)

We had a private transfer booked between LHR & LGW so we literally ran out of the airport (once we'd picked up our four suitcases from baggage carousel - thankfully they came out almost immediately). Traffic on the M25 was verrrrrrrrrrrry busy and slow. We literally got to the British Airways desk with 2 minutes spare to check in. I think the traffic between the two airports is hit and miss, if you get a quiet day then it can be done in about 40 mins but if there's an accident then you're stuffed.

I can honestly say I would never ever do this connection time again - Its absolutely not enough time. The stress alone is horrendous. Whilst we made it, I don't think I've ever been so stressed in my life.. Make sure you get a longer connection time
