Do things put you off food?
This morning I’ve made my salad to eat at lunch and there was a bag of “washed and ready” spinach. There was a little yellow/white thing like a grain of rice. At first I thought it was a maggot but it didn’t move so I touched it and it was hard. But then as I squeezed it “stuff” came out 🤮.
I tried to reason with myself that I eat it all the time and I have no actual idea what Sainsburys wash off it to ge washed and ready (which it clearly wasn’t 😂 but even though I give it a really good wash (in warm water which is probably not good for salad) I’m sat here thinking do I eat it? I’m not a person who is put off food when people talk about other things but knowing this “thing” was on my spinach I’m not sure if I can stomach it. Just wondering if you have ever found stuff in food does it put you off? Once found a blue plaster in some chicken AFTER cooking and eating part - that turned my stomach and put me off. |

Yes, once found a dead bluebottle in a bag of freshly opened Florette salad. I can't even look at it in the supermarket without my stomach lurching.

I bought a fresh cauliflower years ago that was absolutely crawling with tiny bugs, washed it in 3 lots of clean water, still not bug free, then chucked it, haven't been able to eat cauliflower since.

About 30 years ago we picked some wild raspberries up in Scotland, I put them in a colander and rinsed them and left them to drain.
They started moving about and they were full of maggots. To this day I cant eat raspberries without dissecting them first |

My daughter recently told me about something being shared on internet. Obviously people buy strawberries “washed and ready” and then maybe rinse and eat but apparently people are putting their strawberries to soak in water and worms/maggots are coming out.
Think I’m gonna bin it. I keep thinking about it. |

We had a tin of Tuna maybe 25 years ago and it had the biggest fly in it I have ever seen. Think 35mm plus!
Passed it to environmental health who declared it to be a South Pacific fly which was a bit obvious as the Tuna was caught there.

How on earth does a worm/maggot come out of a strawberry? strawberries are sealed and have a stalk, how can anything get into it?
I never trust washed and ready salad, rarely buy it but if I do for quickness I soak it in salted cold water and rinse it several times . Cauliflower I won't buy one unless it's white and tightly closed, even then I break the florets up and still soak in salted water. Ever since I was a kid and mum served up a salad and there was a slug in my lettuce the thought of eating a big freaks me out 🤮 You have got me worried about strawberries now 😩

Ryvita - camping and eating Ryvita one morning with peanut butter, got down near the bottom of the ryvita pack and it was writhing with maggots. We had eaten the rest, they were fine, but I still can't eat them now.
