Dentist Experience Today

Not sure if this is typical but here is my experience at the dentist today... Denplan member no pain

Ahead of appointment (only possible because I was triaged over the telephone in lockdown) I fill in two forms to say I or anyone I know have not got the lurgy and health questions. These are emailed back.

I rock up in car, wearing mask, 2min before appointment to find door locked

Door is opened and they say they have not had forms. Completed at distance verbally in doorway with receptionist

Next I have the temp check, they point gun at my head. 37.4, bit high but ok as below 38.

Go into empty waiting room. Wait 10 mins

Called in, told dentist the tooth (At the back) was rough to touch with tongue

He looked and said yes, its cracked and needs new filling

Told me he is not using drills, so puts me on a waiting list.

Went home

Perhaps I will get it fixed in 2021? Who knows?

Me and dd went the week they opened, went in without a mask and was given a mask. Had to fill in forms because they said they emailed me them but they didn’t. Took our temperatures which were fine, I hate masks and was pouring with sweat, dentist looked at our teeth, dds fine and mine I talked about straightening my front teeth that have chipped. He said I would need a mouth guard but seemed reluctant to do anything. He said he will see me in 3 months, dd in six months. The Receptionist seemed lonely and continued to tell us her life story, we were glad to get out of there! I think it was a waste of time we should of waited another 3 months!

I had very much same experience last Friday. I am also with Denplan but I am going to have to pay for the new filling which is fair enough plus an extra £40 for PPE (not dentist decision) when I do get it done.

My point entirely.

Denplan (in my case) are obviously under pressure to start some kind of hand holding service.

In NI, drilling can start in a couple of weeks later this month. Not sure what has been announced in other parts of UK.

Thing is, I am not in pain thank goodness, if anyone is, and its manageable with pills, this situation must be a nightmare.

My friend in work went this week. She had to wear a mask and foot coverings, have her temp taken, wash her hands in front of the assistant, one way in and one way out ... the dentist was dressed in full PPE which totally restricted his movements. Apparently it is so uncomfortable they are only going to be doing treatments once a week.

My husband went today. He was called yesterday and triaged. Told to bring mask and gloves. Doors were locked when he arrived. He waited and they let him in, straight into the treatment room. He had a 2 hour appointment so that experience would have been different to a normal check up. He said it was fine, he has another 2 hour appointment in 3 weeks.

Should Denplan continue to take full direct debits, for a 25% service at best?
