In March, the FBI released preliminary 2020 statistics showing a significant jump - 25% - in murders from the year before. So far, the upward trend has continued into 2021.

There's no need to be sorry. I just wasn't aware of there being a crime problem to that extent. As I said I will check with my relatives to see if they think I'll have issues on my February (hopefully) trip. I just checked Tripadvisor there now to see if I could find anything and there are several good posts from locals as well as some recent trip reports from US tourists which I found helpful. I'm in Ireland and haven't seen the same coverage over here.

Not heard anything really but not really watching news etc.
I loved New York when we visited 10 years ago so looking forward to taking my 2 daughters. Thank you Landandword17 for your accommodation suggestions. I’m currently looking them up but can’t price anything on BA atm as they’re only going to middle of June next year, will need to wait another few weeks for end of July to open up.
