VRBO booking and cancellation
Hi Dibbers!
I am looking for some advice/reassurance if poss. We, along with many of us, have re-booked from last year to this. Along with 2 weeks in Orlando, we also had 5 days in NYC before hand arriving on 7th Aug 2021. Our accommodation in NYC is booked with Vrbo and the cut off point for cancelling in 8th June, however the homeowner has said over WhatsApp that we would get a full refund if we cancelled 30 days before. I'm not sure if he's right - does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks Clare |

It would be whatever the owners terms and conditions are. They would be posted on VRBO site

You should be able to log into your booking and see the t&cs. As mseagle has said / it depends on the individual owner.

We booked with vrbo, the terms for that villa was 60 days cancellation. We heard the owner was selling (by offchance) so cancelled before the 60 days and deposit fully refunded. Looked for another on Vbro and delighted to see there terms was full refund if cancel up to 14days before holiday so booked with them.
Terms are down to individual owners, and the owner appears to be wanting to negotiate, however I would ask for confirmation in writing that they are willing to alter the original terms for you.

Hi,
This is the prob I’m having. The VRBO site says 60 days but he’s msg to say we can cancel at 30 days. He’s also said that his dad has cancer and that we should cancel, then goes on to say that he will honour the 30 day cancellation. It’s very confusing as I can’t seem to get a straight answer out of him 🤷🏽 |

My personal advice to you would be to get your exchanges off WhatsApp and on the VRBO platform. Then it is ‘official’ and if he confirms the 30 days on that site then you can pick it up with VRBO if there are any problems.

I would message him through the VRBO platform with the hope of getting a clear response from him on there.
As others have said, it’s down to the owner to set the terms and not VRBO. My villla booking was cancelled by the owner as they suddenly had ‘scheduled maintenance’ for the middle of August?!?! VRBO quickly refunded the service charge but then left it to me to deal with the owner for the refund. |
