We have done Deerfield twice and slight extremes, the two of us stayed at the Wyndham and then when we were with family we stayed at a motel. We loved both and there are lots of other places I fancied trying as we walked along the front.
It's a beautiful place and if you go you absolutely must eat at the restaurant/bar opposite the Wyndham who's name eluded me at the moment. Will edit when I remember it.

In Fort Lauderdale we always stay at Lago Mar, which while the rooms are now getting a little bit dated, though always spotlessly clean, has a lovely pool and best of all, direct access to step out onto the beach.

Deerfield beach, we've stayed at Embassy Suites, (all suites, we had full sea view option) again on the seafront, includes a good full American breakfast
