Grand Floridian hotel building converting to DVC

This was on notifications on the DVC website

More Disney Vacation Club Magic Coming to Walt Disney World
We are excited to share plans to reimagine one building of existing hotel rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa into Disney Vacation Club Villas.
Starting next spring, we plan to convert Big Pine Key (Building 9) at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa into approximately 200 Resort Studios, each accommodating up to five people. Featuring the Victorian elegance and charm of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, these new Villas will offer Members luxury accommodations and amenities, with some Villas boasting stunning views of Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom. Projected to open in summer 2022, these new Villas are an expansion of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and will be a part of its current condominium association.
We look forward to sharing more information about the start of sales and rental bookings with our Members at a later date.

This could be great for studio availability! I wonder how they’ll be able to sell new VGF contracts with the resale restrictions.

This seems to be a ‘quick and dirty’ conversion to offer something else as well as Riviera to boost sales numbers. Will be very cheap to do compared to building a new DVC and much cheaper than a usual conversion such as Copper Creek.
Never before have they just had studios.
Wonder if the points will be combined with the current VGF like they did with Animal Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge? Suspect so.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an easy solution to a massive decline in deluxe room bookings too.
The notice says that it will be part of the existing association. Facebook certainly seems to think that means it’ll be the same as AK .

I have always been surprised that they managed to fill so many very expensive deluxe rooms.

Very nice boost for existing VGF owners!

Might even trickle down and open up some very rare 7 month window opportunities.

I have just checked out the existing floor plans on the 'Touring Plans' website.
So 5 floors albeit the 5th floor is not the whole length of the building. All current rooms are a similar size.

Going to be a really quick project and I doubt much actual in depth construction work will take place, more likely just a really good refurb and adding the DVC theming. Good location as well by the lake.

This is fantastic news as I'm desperate to stay there next year. We want to do 12 nights so I'm hoping this gives us more chance of doing that, just need to find someone to rent me their points first!

Does this mean that they will sell points for GFV too direct? Not that I could afford that anyway, even the resales from buyandselldvc.com are too expensive

Yes they are selling them direct, that’s why they are doing it- to make a boatload of cash. I think it will be about $225 a point. Even I’ve no interest in paying that kind of money for DVC. You could buy twice the points for that money at SSR and I mainly stay where I want anyway in 1 beds.
