Cancellation with borrowed points?

I have a reservation for August 3rd using

17 banked points from last year

171 points from this year (june 21 - may 22)

83 borrowed points from next year (june 22-may 23)

If I cancel before the 3rd July (frustratingly close to that 4th July possible announcement!) I won't be able to travel again until next July/August.

I know the 17 points are lost unless I can rent them out.
171 points from this year can be banked.

What happens to the 83 borrowed points?

I found this statement on a blog, but I can't find it on the DVC website.

When a reservation involving Borrowed Points is cancelled, the Borrowed Points will be returned to the Use Year they were borrowed from regardless of arrival date. Please allow up to 15 business days for this process to be completed.

and I also found this statement on the DVC website.

31 or More Days Before Check-In If the new reservation uses fewer Vacation Points than the original reservation, the remaining Vacation Points will be returned to your account in the Use Year in which the reservation falls.

Which seem to contradict each other.

I suspect it will be the second option, but the first would be extremely useful!

Does anyone know?

The official line on borrowed points is they stay borrowed I believe - the blanket exception ended in May.

They have been making some exceptions for international owners but I think you have to call.

I'm counting on them still returning borrowed points to the year they came from. Last time I spoke to member services, they said to call when I get to the deadline (30 days before), and if we still can't go to discuss options. I would be very surprised if they change this for international members before borders open.
