My favourite Disney memory after more than 30 years of visiting Disney parks around the world is pretty hard to pin down. However, I think it was this one - my dad, recovering from extensive surgery after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in the late 1990s, was recuperating by staying with my brother who was living near Dallas, Texas. After 3 months of rest and gentle exercise, combined with the warm autumn weather, dad was feeling a lot better. We just happened to be holidaying in Florida during this period, and invited dad to come and stay with us for a few days, during which time we bought him a 2-day ticket to WDW for his birthday. Dad's face as we led him into Epcot for his first ever Disney park experience was a picture - he clearly was completely entranced by what he saw. Dad and I are very similar in nature, we both love to learn new things, and the educational aspects of the old Epcot were mesmerising to him, particularly things like the Universe of Energy. He also spectacularly and noisily enjoyed meeting his favourite Disney character, Winnie the Pooh! We watched Tapestry of Nations together, and my dad was moved to tears by it, something I'd never seen before. The next day we took him to the Magic Kingdom, and that was the point at which he said to us, "I'm phoning your mum and telling her to cancel our holiday to Malta for next year - we have to come here!" As a result of this, they had many happy visits to Florida as a family over the next 20 years.
Sadly, dad now has dementia and is pretty poorly. He doesn't eat much and can't remember who we are sometimes, but he does remember his holidays to Florida and loves to talk about them. Mum passed away 6 years ago, and her favourite memories were always ones from Florida. So I guess holidays to Walt Disney World have been pretty important to our family over the years, and have given us all some incredible memories.

Mine was quite a few years ago when my eldest daughter must have been about 7. We went to get an ice cream in the animal kingdom, I think Dino Bites, and the CM saw my daughter's birthday badge and when I went to pay she said hold on a minute the phone's ringing and she pretended to speak to Mickey Mouse and said to us that Mickey wants my daughter to have a free birthday ice cream on him. My daughter's face was something I'll never forget. Disney magic.

My disabled friend crying as she saw the Disney Dream Cruise Ship August 2023! My friend (her mum) and I took her for her 50th birthday. It was literally a 'dream' come true for her! We had the most amazing time and she loved every minute of the trip!

One of my favourite stand out memories for the whole family was when we were walking through the crowds in Magic Kingdom, assisting my son, who is blind & uses a white cane. Suddenly there was a clearing in the crowds & Minnie was coming towards us. She spotted my son, & even though I think she was going to take a little break, she took the time to come over to hold my sons hand to let him know she was there & made a fuss of him, posing for pics & making sure there was plenty of space around him, so my son was the centre of attention. This will always be a special memory for my son & us all!❤️

One of my favourites is from a trip in the 90’s. I would have been about 11 or 12 and my younger sister was 3. Our parents let me take my sister on the dumbo ride on our own and I remember feeling so grown up! Anyway my sister liked the ride so much that when it was time to get off she refused and was having a full toddler tantrum, so I tried to pick her up and she bit my arm (quite hard!) in protest. I love that memory because I still get to tease her with it every time we walk past or go on the ride, I’ll never let her forget it! We still love our trips together to this day so I must have forgiven her!

Walking by the beach area of the Contemporary at night we came across Peter Pan waiting for the pirate cruise to dock - he was the surprise character at the end -. My kids were in awe , tbh so were we, he chatted to us for ages just us and him until the boat docked. I’ll never forget it

One of our favourite memories was when our, then teeny, daughter went to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at park opening. Her fairy godmother in training came to meet her and they walked through the near empty Fantasyland together having the sweetest chat. It was like she had stepped into the magic and we were in tears seeing the wonder on her little face 🥰

DH, DD1, DD2 & I have many fond memories of many trips to Disneyworld & Disneyland Paris but probably the one that sticks in the mind most was when we were picked to be in the Jammin Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom.
We we eating breakfast at Tusker House when a chap joined our table and offered us the opportunity to see the best view of the parade. I rebuffed him at first saying that I knew a good spot to view it! Later on we were kitted out in Jungle waistcoats and jungle hats with Mickey ears and rode on the purple tiger float whose paws clawed out as we moved along. I can’t remember which year it was as but clearly some time ago since the parade was cancelled in 2014 for the building of Avatar. |

The Disney parks story that gets told the most in our family is when my dad lost his wallet! We'd had a wonderful day in Magic Kingdom and had just been to the Tomorrowland Terrace dessert party when we decided to head towards the Rapunzel/Tangled photo op. It was 30 Dec so the park was SO busy and when we got to the queue my dad realised he'd lost his wallet and it was containing more cash than he should have been carrying. We turned around and made a mad dash for the table we'd been sitting at and it was still there, under the table, and nothing was missing. It was a lovely day but if the Magic Kingdom or WDW gets mentioned the story of dad losing his wallet will follow
