No, you only take the luggage you are checking in.

Virgin have asked to see our hand luggage previously. And if I remember correctly they tagged them with hand luggage labels this March.

We fly BA - their only requirement is that all passengers are present.

Though if you take hand luggage with you and do day-before check-in at the desk rather than the machines/bag drop they will give you a "cabin" label for your hand luggage if it is small enough to go under the seat.

12 trips and Virgin have never asked us for hand baggage.

Virgin put labels on our hand luggage on a trip to Mexico last October

TC asked for them last year and even weighed the damn things knowing we had overnight stuff in them that wouldn't be travelling.

some times major airlines such as BA or Virgin will weigh hand luggage if the flight is full. I think you are allowed 10kg in hand luggage, however a couple of years ago on a BA flight I was on, everyone on board was asked to check in their hand luggage as well because the flight was full. (I was only allowed to take my small handbag on board!).

We have only done twilight check in with BA, and we leave our hand luggage in the hotel room (apart from valuables), and we've never been asked to show our hand luggage.
