Florida senate vs Reedy Creek

I know that this arrangement has been in place since the 60’s but interesting that Florida is now looking to dissolve the Reedy Creek improvement district and reign in some of the power that the Disney corporation wields. However it’s carrying over a billion dollars of debt which I imagine Orange County and possibly a couple of others will end up having to take on. It will mean more scrutiny for planning and projects. So, will this improve things, make it worse (Disney will have to divulge planning applications) or remain much the same?

Apparently residents of Reedy Creek would have to approve by a majority vote that the district should be dissolved. Since the 50+ residents are all or mostly all Disney employees, it's not going to happen. Just political gesturing to please the Republican base.

About time.
Disney have worked as a little fiefdom inside Florida being able to control all matters without recourse for the local areas and residents, something tgat Universal, Sea World etc have not been able to do, yet they can survive in the real world.
Todays Disney is not the Disney of Walt and Roy, it’s not even the Disney of Eisner.
It’s now run by people who only care about the profits it can make whilst reducing the quality and feeling of magic.
It’s about time

Let’s see shall we. Pity you have had to make it a political issue, you should take that to the political forum perhaps?

But it is a political issue!
Initiated by the Florida governor.

I have no interest in the politics but I don’t think you can deny the background to this move.

The reasons behind this happening now may not be honourable but I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened before. The state was basically blackmailed into allowing it to happen in the first place or Walt would build his park elsewhere. Disney is hardly about to pull out of Florida and it’s now just used to avoid tax, planning and scrutiny (mind you, that’s what it’s always done) and gives it an unfair advantage over the other theme park operators in the area.

My thinking is both sides should sit down and thrash out a solution as to how to take matters forward.

The meeting should take place on Its A Small World ride and they must stay there until a decision is reached - with the music on.
