I had the same question earlier this year and so I had a look for youtube videos. Lots on there. Seems to be Halloween-movie themed walk through spooky houses with actors dressed up jumping out at you, Halloween-themed food and drink, Halloween-themed "shows," and loads of noise. Very loud. To those who have been: do I have it about right?

We are planning to attend this year for the first time.

Yep, pretty much spot on. Several haunted house attractions with scareactors, street zones with scare actors... View from the Cheap Seats does great HHN coverage on Youtube.

Ok going to be controversial here I'd go & do Howl O Scream at Busch first, I'd argue that you will have a better "first time" experience as HHN is busy, like rammed busy! We've done HHN nearly every year that we have been, since 2001, but just felt that last time it was just way too busy, whilst the Houses queues weren't huge, average 90 mins, you couldn't walk about as it was practically shoulder to shoulder

There's Howl-O-Scream at Seaworld too this year. They did it for the first time last year and it got good reviews. We've booked tickets as they were only $34 each, and we're doing HHN too

I was mainly letting the OP know that they could do it at SW now to save them a trip to BG if they weren't planning it anyway.

Enjoy! I'm looking forward to seeing what the SW one is like

I love HHN! It’s got an amazing atmosphere but it’s not for anyone who isn’t into horror or scares or anything like that as it can get a bit intense.
Houses are either based on existing films or tv shows or are completely new stories for the event and you walk through while things jump out at at you. If you’re a big fan of any of the films/shows, definitely worth it. I’m a huge Stranger Things fan so I loved seeing all the little details in the ST house!

Scare zones are also based on film/tv or original stories and it’s where sections of the park will be themed with characters matching the theme wandering around interacting with guests and there sometimes little sideshows in these areas.

They have themed food and drinks and a show as well. There are also a few rides open which tend to have really short waits to get on. Also if you’re a bit Harry Potter fan, it’s the emptiest you’ll ever see Diagon Alley.

TheTimTracker has very good videos of previous events including inside the houses!

All I will say they are scary as 10 and I've not seen anything similar in the UK - top tip pack some spare grundies as when someone fires a proper chainsaw up behind you it does have a certain effect on you

The event has definately progressively gottne more tame over the years and is now insanely crowded compared to the late 90s and early 2000 years.

Saying that its definately still worth going to .

Howl o scream is more like the old HHN
